What happens if you get fired prior to 90 days for blinking the wrong way or eating the bosses jelly donut? Then you're really screwed. Taking a huge paycut in this economy (giving up a high paying job) is the stupidest thing I've heard yet.... They will eat you up and spit you out here..30k is nothing unless you are unemployed which you are not

Well here all all the pieces and I am prepared to show what a mess my life is to everyone, thus if I get flamed, it is what it is.

  • My husband told me in Dec he doesn't know if he wants to be married.
  • 2 weeks later my job told me I would be laid off on Feb 17th.
  • While my husband and I have been working on things he has told me he wants and is moving closer to home (the other desolate side of the state) to finish school and I can come with him, but he still doesn't know what he wants with "us." There are no real jobs opportunities out there for me, I would just be following him in hoping our marriage will work.
  • I began applying to jobs in both Seattle and Las Vegas given "our" current situation. Regardless, less I go on unemployment, I need to find work. Although, my unemployment would pay more that the 30K Vegas job is offering.
  • I was given a job offer here do SEO work that starts on Feb 12th - pay is 57K. I was overpaid at my current job and was fine with the paycut to refine my skills in SEO. They made me this offer last Thurs, on Fri the gaming company offered me 30k.
Casino marketing was always something I wanted to learn, and given my situation it could be an opportune time. That being said, yeeesh, that is some low pay given what I have been making.

If I were in your shoes...
I would kick the man to the curb, you don't need to deal with his angst
Las Vegas has a lower cost of living so I would go for the dream job. Your life will change as a single woman no matter where you live.
I would compare how much 57,000 will get you in Seattle vs the 30,000 you will get in Las Vegas.

Good luck! Life is too short to stay in a relationship where one is not committed.

Men only say that they "don't know if they want to be married" after they are sure that they don't want to be married.

The end is already visible. It's time to make changes now.

Good luck with the start of your new life.

Well, in that case-wait until you get on unemployment and move here I am single, in my 50's and love it here. I have dated three men in my six weeks as a Las Vegas resident. One was fun but he never called for a second date (his loss), another was also fun and has led to additional dates and daily emails/chats/phone calls etc, time will tell if it goes anywhere, and one sucked and I suggested he move on. All and all I am having fun here and it is a great city! You will love it! And do come to our pending coffee meeting With your marriage moving down the river, you might enjoy a new life. If nothing else, you will get to try out the gaming IT path that interests you so much. Do you have kids? Will they come or stay behind? Remember, nothing has to be permanent, if you don't like it here in a year you can always move on.

No, no kids.

Potential divorce in combination with being broke? The job I have been offered here is pretty good, but my dream job is down there for peanuts... decisions, decisions. Either way, he will be leaving across the state in June-ish.

I do love Vegas, I do miss my sisters and I do love the job I have been offered there... man, if they could just up the pay a tad.

In this economy 30,000 is not broke. Never be tempted to stay in a bad marriage for money. If you are good at your job you could move forward.

In my last marriage, over 15 years ago, money was never an issue and I traveled the world. When I got out of that marriage I thanked God for giving me the wisdom and never looked back.

I know I could make it work, there are plenty of people who make 30K or less and do fine... I guess it all depends on what I want to sacrifice and/or gain from making such a move. IDK.
Speaking from experience i would definitely NOT take a step back at your age. Put a plan together. You say that you are very frugal and make $85K so how much would you need to save over the next 3 years? 5 years? to make this move where you would be comfortable financially.

Set a plan then stay disciplined enough to implement it. Good Luck! You will get back to Vegas, i wouldn't do it now though.

EDIT: Oooops, just read your situation. Either way, don't take $30K when you can take $57K. The $30K "dream job" will always be there for someone with your level of experience.
