The underemployment rate would probably scare you even more, and IMO, many of these underemployed should be counted in the unemployment rate!

I don't trust unemployment rates in this country, only in Europe where they're counted differently, more accurately!

Agreed on Europe being more accurate. But then again, Europe knows for sure because they're paying for all those social services that we don't have.

As for underemployment, that's what people get for coming to Las Vegas with a degree in philosophy. (Or some other unmarketable skill.) It has been my experience that Las Vegas pays quite well, if the employee has the skill set that Las Vegas is looking for. For instance, because my wife speaks English and Mandarin with 100% fluency, she could be pulling down six figures as a casino hostess. But she'd rather teach English than lead whales around town. The good jobs are available. But people have to have the skills to get those jobs.

The guy who says, "I'm a framing carpenter. I've always been a framing carpenter. And that's all I'm ever going to be." He's not going to find a job anytime soon.

reviewjournal.com -- Employment: Slot Tech

I have two family members that are ST and they never complain about the actual work, just the hours and the travel they have to put in. One has even traveled out the country for his job.

I assume the hours are scattered all over the place. Any time of the day or night?

Also do you know the cost for tech school?

I'm very interested in slot tech just because I am coming out to Las Vegas in June with only a BS in Elem Ed and planned on just picking up a couple retail/restaurant jobs(any job I can get my hands on).

No criminal record/neat/no job history gaps or problems.

The Wild-Assed-Guess (WAG) system. Perhaps someday graduating to the Scientific-Wild-Assed-Guess (SWAG) system.

That article is almost 10 years and the demand for techs is not the same as 2004.

I had "three strikes." The first was an issue with an incompetent Assistant Mgr who was soon unrelatedly fired for violating company policy. The second two were negative interactions with the next AM who, having recently been demoted and unfortunately suffers from conditions which render her quite difficult to work with, insisted I be let go.

Applicant refused permission to contact his/her current employer for the following reason:

I have no current employer.

The above is clipped from a resume that we received....tell me....would anyone here consider interviewing this person..... It is NOT unusual to receive something like this. USUALLY far worse.

I'm curious what you guys think my employment-ability would be.

I'm 33, no criminal record, able to pass any sort of drug screen, and have never been fired.
In my early years I worked in kitchens (mainly dishwasher/prep cook) Also had a few part time jobs over the years, as secondary employment, working in fast food joints.
I spent 3 years working in gaming at a Washington State casino as a bingo caller/cash handler.
I spent another 2 years or so working in janitorial services at the same casino (not demoted, just needed a change in schedule for personal reasons)
I have spent the past eight years working in call centers, first for a mortgage company, then in debt collections. When I moved to North Carolina 2 years ago I took a part time job as a telemarketer, that due to becoming full time employment, getting a raise and a good bonus program, I am still working at today.

My wife and I are moving to Las Vegas in September, we've got some get-by-til-we-get-work money saved up, how much trouble do you think I'll have finding work?
