In the summer, I prefer to be engulfed by AC. As long as it has Barnes & Noble and a Borders, I'll be happy. I live off of the BFE end of North Jones (3.5 miles north of Jones & 215), and it's a pain to have to go down to the stores at North Rainbow and Lake Meade.

i also like the "open air" idea, i am sure the stores themselves will have the ac cranked on high in the summer.. i like the "green" idea too..

The Great mall is a good idea but when Summerlin Centre open it will blow it away. Originally the great mall was supposed to be mostly indoor with 4-5 anchors. Now its been scaled back to an outdoor style to save money with only a macy's and macy home furnishings. With the state of the economy, it may be scaled back even more. It will succeed, but it will take along time.

Don't be waiting for Summerlin Centre (next to Red Rock Station) to be coming up too soon.

Everything there has been put on hold...

I own trust deeds for the projects there, the mall and the lofts (by Christopher Homes)...both are on "hold" supposedly because the banks are reluctant to lend money to the builders (both quite solvent) in this current market...

However, I've been told the projects will definately go forward when the banks "ease up" a bit...I see just a bit of construction starting there...but not what it should be at this time frame...

We'll see...

Default Current Update From Ross

GREAT MALL OF LAS VEGAS A.K.A. STREETS AT MONTECITO

The Great Mall of Las Vegas, now referred to as the Streets at Montecito, has provided a minor revision to their existing plan to create a more pedestrian friendly mall similar to the District in Green Valley. There are many urban and fun features that incorporate many solar power and green elements to make this project as environmentally friendly as possible. The Streets at Montecito has started the offsites. The project will consist of 850,000 square feet of commercial space, 171, 500 square feet of office space and 682 residential units. This will be a reduction of around 500,000 square feet which will ensure that the site is able to accommodate the traffic and not be over built. The unveiling of the plan will be on May 19, 2008. After the International Council of Shopping Centers conference, there will be a full model displayed at the Centennial Hills Community Center for anyone interested.

One of the reasons alot of these malls are opting for no roofs is that it is cheaper for and eaisier to build and maintain. Dont let the greener enviroment talk fool you. The mall wont have to pay for expensive AC bills during the hotter times of the year or heat in the fall. In the dead of winter or heat of summer does anyone really want to shop outside? Maybe early in the day or late nights. Even with gas high as it is, I'd rather drive to an indoor facility and shop in comfort. No wind, no rain, etc...
The great mall of las vegas original concept was just that, great. But with it being scaled back its just going to become another high end over priced plaza.
