Default Potential new Vegas resident.

Hey guys and gals,

I am considering making the move to Las Vegas (and or the surrounding area). I'm 25, fresh out of grad school, and currently going through the government hiring process. I'm originally from the Boston area, NV looks appealing due to cost of living vs here. If I do land the job my area of work would be close to Nellis AFB. I thought about renting but with the housing market in NV the way it is, it looks like it'd be wiser for me to own. My biggest question is what areas would you recommend/ not recommend (seedy, crime ridden.). I've seen a Las Vegas crime map but I'm not exactly sure how accurate the portrayal is.

Thanks,
Apetro

One of the best areas near the AFB is Aliante Master Plan. Although there are many nice areas near the base, I know several folks who live in Aliante and it is lovely! Lots of activities, tree lined streets, parks, stores close by, events at Seastrand Park. Definately check out the listings/offerings in Aliante. Also check out Los Prados, El Dorado (all communities in the City of North Las Vegas)

Good luck, welcome and have some fun!

Thanks for the speedy reply!

I should also add that I'm not a huge party person, I think I got that out of my system while I was overseas for some time. I've been to Vegas before, seen the strip, etc. I typically find myself doing physical activites (going to the gym, martial arts, riding bikes, triathlons...). One of the big pros I thought about with Vegas is being able to see all the Boxing and MMA fights you can dream of live .

The best areas are not near Nellis. I don't know what the traffic on the 515 is like when you'd be commuting, but I'd rather be in Henderson.

Eagle Trace Apts. Right across the street from the base. I stayed there for about 10 months.

Crime Maps pretty much tell you exactly what they are supposed to....What crimes are going on that neighborhood or zip code.
MMA and membership gyms are huge in Vegas, btw
