I just got my Cox Internet bill and guess what, it went up...AGAIN.
Its now $53. It has gone from $39 to 40 to 42 to 45 to 48 to 50 now to 53 all in the past 2 years. Is anyone else tired of Cox's rates increasing so fast?

Has anyone tried an alternative like century link or others? If so, how much monthly and what are your results with connectivity?

I told Cox I was going to Century Link and they gave me the $54 internet for $19 for the next six months. After that runs out I am still going to Century Link (for internet at least) as I agree it is getting ridiculous. I have 15 meg internet from Cox and Century Link will give you 10 meg for $30 a month. 10 meg is more than fast enough for me. If you do go with Century Link, buy your own modem or they will charge you an additional $5 a month. The modems are only $40.

I pay $45 a month for Clear and that includes the wireless 4G mobile hub "puck" thrown in for access.

The plan from Clear is good for me because Clear has the same portable access to 4G in both the cities I live in (SLC and LV). And, the puck allows multiple members of my family to be online wireless simultaneously.

So, I'm not saying Clear has the best plan or services. What I am saying is Clear is the best choice for me.

I'll never do DSL ever again... it's a waste of time for me.

They are not as fast as Cox, but what else is bad about DSL? Did you experience disconnections or other problems?

I tried out DSL for about 3 weeks and these were the problems that I had.

1. Disconnection issues
2. Frozen load screens/page(Have to keep refreshing the page for it to load properly)
3. Youtube streaming problems(actually all sites that stream videos)
4. Netflix stream buffering extended wait times
5 Music/movie downloads taking forever or canceled unexpectedly
6. Uploading video files can take 3-4 times as long/sometimes videos will get partially uploaded without the person knowing
7. Hosting anything on the net? Forget about it.
8. Crazy long email attachment wait times
9. Online Gaming? Forget about it.
10. Interactive web sites wont even open correctly or switch to a downgraded alternate mode(Flickr/Facebook/Yahoo mail/Google mail)

A lot of flash based websites are hardly designed for non high speed internet service. Either they freeze up or switch to a "basic mode" automatically.

Thanks, I did not know all that.

If all you do is simple web browsing, facebook updates and e-mail checking then you should be able to save some money with DSL.

I have DSL with CenturyLink now. I had Cox in the past. And while I prefer cable to DSL, I don't have the problems you describe. It's not nearly as fast. And I usually have to pause streaming video for a minute to build up a bigger buffer. But it is acceptable for what I want from the 'net. With the phone/dish/net bundle, it's worth the minor speed annoyances.

But I don't host anything, and online gaming doesn't interest me. So YMMV.
