The more we drive gas guzzlers the more we get higher gas prices. Watch the movie who killed the electric car on Netflix or Blockbuster and you'll see why gas prices keep going up. The Europeans all drive smaller cars and lots of wagons with similar cargo space as some of our suvs. They also pay $7-9 bucks a gallon for their petrol.
As stupid as the idea of owning a Nissan Leaf which limits you to 70miles a day, I'd consider such a car if prices keep inflating while XOM, Shell, BP record record profits. That BS ad for visit the gulf is such crap. Give me a break, i'd much rather you not made the mess of our eco system in the first place rather than your fake clean up efforts.

Or there's CNG, which has been at $2.50 per gallon equivalent since the day I bought the thing. I pay $40 per month for (methane) gas.

We might be able to keep the price down if we would drill. We have lots of oil to keep us going for years. If we continue to listen to the enviromentalist, we will be paying $9 a gal. Drill and get rid of the Middle East, sounds good to me!

it costs more to get our oil out of the ground than the oil is worth.

Actually you can't just drive anywhere in 15 minutes. Driving from Aliante over to Tropicana/Jones area yesterday took us 45 minutes, and this was avoiding most of the heavier traffic. I think if you stayed in one general area, then the 15 minute rule would be true.

We have the oil it is lack of refineries and that is here the oil companies have us by the Ba__s. The new pipe line that the GOP wants to put in is going to be a bunch oh Bull because they will claim they make more money selling the oil than refining it. This whole thing is a shell game and we pay the price. Higher fuel prices drag down the economy which is just what the GOP wants to try to win the election. The big money for the GOP is from oil.

The oil exists, that's not the problem. It's the cost to get to it & refine it. There are large reserves in Canada, for example, but it's embedded in the rock & needs to be manually extracted & is harder to refine.

Better yet, we could adjust our habits to not be so dependent on foreign oil. For all the talk about the economy & how tough things are in Las Vegas, I see a LOT of SUVs in this town. People want their toys but then complain when they get expensive. It's kinda like pro sports tickets - as long as we keep paying the inflated prices & don't reduce demand, why should they lower prices? The same is true with oil & gas prices. We're slaves to foreign oil until we find cheaper sources ourselves or find better alternatives.

Time to embrace hypermiling techniques...the safe ones, at least.
