It's the same with the jobs here....People are MOVING here for work while those who are here complain about no jobs!

Then again, I guess it's what you can handle...an event may be very distressing for one person while another who have been through some real ***** will barely notice the stress! So then the drama king/queen will go on to relate what a terrible experience they had to everyone who will listen!
This is something I've been wondering about for awhile. Ive used this LV forum since August to gauge the pros/cons about moving there in May, and while I am grateful for the info/advice I would have never found anywhere else, I wonder if some of the "bad" stuff about LV is exaggerated...guess I could fault myself some, it's random poster's perspective. Take the info for what it's worth.

Now I take the really negative opinion and the uber positive opinion and assume the truth is somewhere in the middle.

What you need to understand is that a lot of what happens in Vegas involves alcohol. Bicyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians are all at a severe disadvantage.

What part of town are you biking around. I live around Trop and Eastern and it is most definitely not bike friendly.
I'm biking from Pecos and Charleston to the LVB then down the strip.

It's the same as going to a website looking for a review of a computer or a hotel. You are going to see good and bad experiences. Those that have a bad experience tend to yell the loudest. I try to take everything I read with a grain of salt (which is also how I like my tequila ) and wait to make my own decisions about things based on my own experiences.

Same goes when you are about to be introduced to someone. The person doing the introducing might give you an earful about the person you are about to meet, but I never listen. I don't judge people based on hearsay and I don't judge Las Vegas based on bad experiences other people have had.

i am the op nonentity.

i bike 20+ miles a day in los angeles, california and my experience in las vegas truly sucks for cyclists.
the streets are not made for bicycles at all. no shoulders, no bike lanes at all. the only people i remember seeing on bicycles are homeless people and security rent-a-cops on the strip.

i visited las vegas a few weeks ago after my first post and i stayed at the south point hotel at silverado blvd/las vegas blvd.

i spent an hour looking outside my hotel window at south las vegas blvd traffic. I never saw a single bicycle commuter at all!!!

here in los angeles, i can look outside my window and see a bicycle commuter every 30 seconds on the road. but over 3 days in las vegas i never say a single bike commuter.

I am a bicycle enthusiast. (But I don't wear stupid bike apparel with corporate logos. That's for poseurs.) But I ride a lot. At my last job, I regularly commuted nine miles each way. I would ride south on Hollywood Blvd. to the wetlands park, and then down Broadbent to Henderson, where I worked.

I can't bike to work for my current job. I work swing shift, which means I'd be biking home at the "stupid hour" of midnight. There are simply too many drunks on the roads.

Even in daylight hours, it's scary. Two years ago, I was clipped by a drunk driver in a pickup truck who whacked me with his side-view mirror as I was biking to the corner store. I was knocked off my bike and into a cactus. (Probably the only wild cactus left on Hollywood Blvd.) That was rather painful. The drunk in question didn't even stop.

Luckily, the only injuries were road rash, a big bruise on my left arm from the mirror, and cactus stings. I limped back home. So the moral of my cautionary tale is to be very mindful while riding the streets of Las Vegas....

What I have been told by someone here is the "rent-a-cops" on bikes are actual police officers.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

There are a ton of bikers on the red rock loop, in fact one of the only stores in Blue Diamond is a bicycle shop. There are tons of off road biking areas up around the red rock loop. There is also a huge bicycle shop at Eastern and Flamingo. Most bikers I see stay off the main streets and use side streets. It's probably OK but definitely not a bike city. Drivers around here just aren't used to seeing bikes. If I road one I would probably stay on the sidewalk most of the time.

Interesting distracted driver comment . . Fox 5 report:

"with our new hands-free law, drivers are starting to hide their phones in their laps, taking their eyes off the road completely"
