I'm not sure what the cost is for insurance compared to renting everytime. Last time we had a Kia full size from ALamo for 249. all in for 9 days but now looking to book next Dec. for 12 days they want 760.

I set up a bank account in Vegas so guessing getting car insurance can happen too.

Just inquire.

Vegas is $300-400 a night for around new years, having your own place will save big time coin going for NYE.

One tip on insurance, most accounts you can manage online and it's easy to drop the insurance down to lower coverage if you'll be away and the car will be secure such as in a garage. Just hop online and raise the coverage again when you come back.

Did a little research and the easiest for a Canadian is to buy a cheap car in Canada, drive it down, and leave it. I'm from BC and it is ICBC here. Here's a couple excerpts I found although I have no way of checking out legalities...It is just some snowbird advice I found on a site.

Insure it as pleasure only, no collision, with $2 Million liability and drive it down Nevada. Once there this is what I copied from a Globe and Mail article...
You can use your vehicle in the U.S. for up to one year with Canadian licence plates and a Canaidan driver's licence. From another site on ICBC FAQ's it says:
Q: We plan on travelling in the US for less than six months. If illness or other circumstances require us to leave the vehicle for a time over the six-month period will our ICBC coverage remain in effect until we can retrieve the car?
A: If you are outside the province solely for vacation purposes, you don't need to change your insurance policy and it should remain in effect until it expires. If the insurance expires while the vehicle is temporarily out of the province, as long as you are still considered a BC resident, you may be able to renew your insurance by calling the Autoplan Sales department at 1-800-328-4484, Monday to Friday."

Jonathan, just so I understand correctly, you mean you do not obtain a Nevada Drivers License? You do not surrender your "home" state license? Is that correct? DMV issues you a "seasonal ID" and you keep your DL from your state of residence for income tax purposes?

Thanks
