Mount Charleston has residents? Is it another expensive place much like Boulder City and Blue Daimond?

Before you get to the lodge there are two residential areas. Property up there is expensive because it is hard to get, but most of the homes are older, and nothing to brag about in most cases. I think most of them were originally built to be mountain retreats, but then people started commuting from up there. There are a few newer, nicer, homes too. Most look like what you'd expect on a mountain, built to blend into the trees, etc. There are a few homes at Lee Canyon also. Then further up 95, just past the prison at (actually before) Indian Springs is the small rural community of Cold Creek where wild horses outnumber the people and keep their weedy lawns trimmed.

No, these communities are not like either Blue Diamond or Boulder City. Well, maybe a little bit like Blue Diamond but not really. There are no businesses on the mountain except for the Lodge, and the hotel below it, and of course, the Ski area at Lee Canyon. No gas or services though.

There are no gas stations or stores at Mt. Charleston in either canyon. In fact, when you leave U.S. 95 to head up either highway into the mountains there are signs warning people that there is No Gas on the mountain.

Only commercial business allowed at what we call Mt. Charleston (technically it is not Mt. Charleston), would be the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort in Lee Canyon, and the Mt. Charleston Lodge at the end of Kyle Canyon, and about a mile before that, the Mt. Charleston Resort. Calling any of them "resorts" is a stretch, but all three have restaurants. I think there was once a small store next to the hotel (resort?) but I think it's gone. The residents up there always vote down any attempts to expand business activity, and who could blame them?

I forgot to add that before the Mt. Chas. Hotel (resort?) in Kyle Canyon is a failed golf course. That will be the new location of the U.S. Forest Service Visitor Center. The Federal Gov't is allowing the group I've been associated with for several years a location for the Silent Heroes of The Cold War National Memorial.

There are also horse rentals on the mountain, but I don't think they are permanent facilities.

Nevada is not a police state like Gnu Yawk. We still believe in personal responsibility and personal choice.
