Default Artist from UK looking to visit Vegas

Hi, I'm a 23 year old graduate from England, I'm a practicing Artist currently working between Newcastle and London. I'm looking to visit Vegas and do some research for a few weeks, take some photos (a lot of my work is centered around photography as a primary method of gathering material).
I will be applying to the Arts Council over here for funding of some kind or a grant, but additionally I'd love to come to Vegas on my own terms.

So I guess what I'm asking is if any of you fine people could point me in the right direction/ suggest cheap places to stay or even better- be willing to put up a struggling artist on their sofa for a night...I am perhaps naively trusting in the human nature, I know, but part of my practice is to explore cultural anthropology, 'purposeful dis-locatation' and plain old fashioned human nature, in all its glory!

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please get back to me! I've also tired contacting Nevada University over there to try and set up some kind of exchange, to little o veil...

there are some great youth hostels here, as well as Majestic mountains, and Man made wonders!

What is your medium?

Check out Zabriskie Point, death valley etc. I'm sure you won't have a problem renting a room at some girls house, in fact one comes to mind. They advertise on craigslist and have a little website.

@Jonathan, I graduated with a 1st in sculpture, I am pretty dynamic though, more of a conceptual artist, i just respond to the ideas that i have and then feel my way through and see which medium fits best.
