First and foremost, this does not deal with me... I have a friend that just started working at a casino.. had a work related injury on the job.. went to emergency doc..(has documentation)... called in for an update to the work schedule.. they terminated him...

is this even legal... (and this is one reason why I no longer work for a casino)

Possibly the sequence of events isn't what he told you. It never is. But, in Nevada there is no implied contract between you and the employer. They don't need a reason to terminate you, nor do you need a reason to quit. Unless of course there IS a contract. Then you could get a lawyer.

As others have suggested, you may not have the whole story. Did he report the injury, and go where the employer told him to go? That way, the initial legal bases for the injury are covered (and that's how the drug testing gets done, too). But, if he's an at will employee, he can be fired for any reason or no reason, so long as the reason doesn't violate public policy/law.

There is obviously more to this story than you are being told.

Sounds really questionable. If I was him I would certainly consult with an attorney.

At will means at will. He shouldn't waste money on an attorney.

They can terminate him for any reason or no reason at all.

Right to work protects employers and screws employees.
