My allergies in Vegas are real bad too. Finally after 15 years of it, my Dr. put me on Nasonex. I've been using it for a year and it's been wonderful. I usually get 2-3 severe allergy infections a year and I have not had a single one in the year that I have been using the Nasonex.

My brother's allergies actually got much worse in LV...he thinks it was from all the dust kicked up from all the construction.

We've had some smoke from the fire at Big Bear Lake along with ashes. I got in my truck yesterday after work and it looked like somebody dumped an ashtray in it. Today, I left my condo and I could smell the smoke.
Just some food for thought.

Is there an allergy season there? Is October bad? I'll be visiting next month so I guess I will find out then.

Allergy treatments that actually eliminate them not cover them up
I never had allergies until I moved to Las Vegas. They got so bad that I was eating anti-histamines like candy and going through a box of Kleenex almost daily. Then it got so almost anything I ate made me deathly ill, and I had no energy, all sorts of pains, and health problems. Finally, about ten years ago I found out about Dr. Robert Milne, an MD here in Las Vegas who switched over to homeopathic medicine when regular medicine couldn’t cure the health problems of his own family. Dr. Milne helped a lot, but while my wife, who had asthma on top of her allergies, and I were seeing him, we picked up one of the books he has written about asthma, and we read about NAET.
To make a long story short, we found a NAET practitioner here in town. At first we thought this is probably a scam, but it worked so well were blown away. Food no longer makes me sick, I don’t go through dozens of Kleenex daily anymore, and my wife hasn’t had to be rushed to the emergency room in the middle of the night for asthma attacks in years.
NAET stands for Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique. We learned to do it ourselves from Dr. Nambudripad’s books, and from the people who started our treatments who had her training. Along the way we discovered one of her students, Dr. Ellen Cutler, who has improved the method and made the treatments a little easier.
Dr. Nambudripad says, you can be allergic to anything under the sun, including the sun itself. We found that we have had hundreds of allergies, and we were trying to treat them one at a time. Just recently we decided to check with someone who was a trained professional to see if we were doing something wrong. That’s when we discovered that we can treat several at a time, so we are now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
I have met medical doctors who approve of NAET, but most allergy specialists don’t know crap about allergies, and will just drug you to cover up the symptoms. You can get rid of the allergies for good. And you’d better, because when you are sneezing at pollen, it means your immune system is so weakened by all the other stuff you’re allergic to that your body can’t handle it anymore. Allergies don’t just cause sneezing…they cause every terrible illness there is. Our air, water, and food are so polluted, and contain so many chemical additives, that our bodies can’t take it anymore. I’ve heard Dr. Milne say that almost everyone is allergic to wheat, sugar, and dairy products. From my own experience I believe it’s the additives, not the food…. I pulled up a list of food additives on the internet and came up with literally hundreds of them.
Check out these websites. I’ve added another one, Body Talk, that is new to us, but so far we have had great results with it from our practitioner and by doing it ourselves. If anyone wants the practitioner’s name, then PM me and I’ll give you her number.

Neti Pot
I don't suffer from allergies here too severely, thank goodness, but do have the odd day where there's something in the air that gets me. (In Omaha, I had almost nonstop sinus infections. Ugh!) Anyway, a Neti pot has been a miracle for me. At the first sign of a sinus headache, I use the Neti pot and that clears it right up. Essentially, you take a mild saline solution and run it thru your sinuses to clean out the spores, dust, whatever. No side effects and takes about 2 minutes. I have several friends with asthma who swear by it too. You can get a Neti pot at a health food store or you can go to a drug store and find a nasal lavage kit in the cough and cold section.

To BUZZ123,
I was searching Dr. Robert Milne and came across your views on allergies from Sept 2007. A friend was telling me about MVT method Dr. Milne uses. I too have gone to a doctor that practices NAET. But I don't see how I can do this myself. I have not read the books, just been treated. Would love your insight.
Thanks,
Rhokay

Mily,
You've received some good advice here. If you move to Las Vegas, you'll probably experience a respite from your allergies. Then the dust and pollen will start to bother you. If you have eye allergy problems, Pataday really helps. Nasonex is a must. The Neti pot is the best preventative, especially for dust.

I don't know. Twice this year I've been in town and have suffered horrific allergies. Not sure if it's the dust, mulberry, pollen, ragweed
This last foray wasn't as bad as back in March. At least I got hit at the end of the trip this time.
TigerBeer, I don't know about ragweed, but someone told me that tumbleweed gives off a lot of pollen....?
