Good morning, I may be presented with an opportunity to transfer my job to Nellis AFB but I know nothing of this area or state. Can anyone tell me about that area? Where are good areas to live and raise a family? how is the weather? Etc.

Thank You

There are plenty on nice neighborhoods on the NE side of town. Traffic is a major problem as the freeways don't really come too close.

It's a blue collar area, but being close to the base, that seems natural.

I wouldn't live anywhere near the base. Although it may look far on a map but Green Valley is only about half hour drive to the base and the neighborhoods are worlds apart, much nicer down in the GV area.

ayalatw, I'm in the Air Force and I live near the base (across the street actually). It's not the greatest neighborhood, but it's far from the worst. I HATE traffic and refuse to drive more than 10 minutes to get to work. There are some better neighborhoods not too far from the base. I know a couple of guys who live in Aliante and they love it.

Actually the traffic in the NE isn't all that bad except for on Nellis Blvd. Las Vegas Blvd is easy to travel as is Pecos...I-15 also services the area...

If you are going to work at Nellis, do not move to Green valley or Henderson. Go anywhere north of Ann road and you will be close enough to the base without having to live right next to it.
A better bet would be to live on base. It's a nice 'quiet' little community in there, when the planes aren't flying. Which is maybe one day a week i think.

Thanks, since you are in the Air Force out of Nellis, maybe you can help me a little more. How are the schools there. I have a 15 year old, a 7 year old and a 1 month old. My oldest just came from Puerto Rico and his English is very limited.

Thanks, I am not from the area (actually I have never been to NV) so I am not familiar with anyplace north of Ann rd. If you can suggest any places I would greatly appreciate it.
