Ardiente' is a guard gated community and as has been said, many of the residents are retired police and military. Ardiente' is about 1 mile south of the VA Hospital and 5 miles NW of Nellis AFB. Shea Homes is very supportive of Veterans. The sound of the jets flying over seemed louder to me when I was living in Alliante', than when I was living in Ardiente'. However, your mileage may vary.
The noise level in Ardiente is better because it out of the direct flight path from Nellis. Here is an environmental report with noise levels for the area:

It is a little hard to tell from the map but Ardiente is in the white area.

It appears that perhaps the landing approach to Nellis AFB is over Losee with take offs being to the NE. If so, that may account for my perceived difference in noise levels between Alliante' and Ardiente'.

Default The Real Ardiente

Here's a link to an insider website created by an Ardiente homeowner.

therealardiente.wordpress.com

For an insight into what life can be like in an over-55 HOA, it's worth reading.
Judge for yourself.

This is not really a discussion of life in a 55+ community. It is in fact a blog by a member of the "loyal opposition". This phenomena seems to occur in all 55+ communities. I personally know of the ones in Sun City Summerlin and Sun City Anthem. Basically it is a group in conflict with the group that is actually running the HOA. Over time the group in control can change though in Sun City Summerlin the present group has been in control for a long time. This is actually a pretty healthy thing if it does not get out of control. A watchdog group. The one thing to be aware of is that it is a one sided view and on many issues there is a another side.

Ardiente uses a management company while neither SC Summerlin or Anthem do. So the operating people at Ardiente are employees of the management company or subcontractors not HOA employees. That changes the view somewhat. Ardiente has manned gates which are present only in a small part of SC Anthem and not in SC Summerlin. The manned gates are present at Siena. The manned gates cause a significant increase in the HOA dues.

The discussion of security is interesting particularly if you know that Sun City Summerlin maintain a volunteer patrol group complete with vehicles which continuous patrols that community. It is run like a little police force though the members are carefully instructed as to the limit of their scope. They know they are not Police. They do however track activity in the community and are often the first responders. Anything of significant they call Metro immediately.

SC Anthem has no manned gates whatsoever.

Aridente ony has ONE manned gate. The other two work on an antiquated 'garage door' clicker system - about the least secure system available.

Right. SC Anthem does have one gated section however. Sun City Summerlin has none. Siena is guard gated.

The most expensive is guard gated. But gated has a substantial cost as you now own the roads.

Guard gated often have non manned entrances as well as the manned one. Some also man the gates only at certain hours. The guard gated portion of Silverstone Ranch has a back entrance that is double gated so you cannot tail gate in.

And there are gated tracts within the guard gated master plan at Painted Desert and Spanish Trail. So after the guard you still need a gate code.

I am the OP and did buy a home in Ardiente. Just to give you a little background about the blog. The individual that writes the blog ran for the HOA board and was elected. He was also elected HOA board president. Six months later he resigned and then started writing the blog. Many of his complaints are about problems that he created.

"Six months later he resigned and then started writing the blog". Not quite true! It was over 3 months before said individual began the blog.
"Many of the complaints are about problems that he created". I challenge you to to come up with a single example of this allegation.

It was over 3 months before he started writing the blog. Very silly argument.

Ardiente has existed for over ten years. It never had or needed a truck. One of his first actions as board president was to buy a truck. Why do you think he bought a truck?
