What do you think about the idea of bringing back a legendary property? Obviously it wouldn't have been torn down if they thought that it was worth the money back then, but now that several years have gone by and people who used to visit only have their memories left and people like me, who never went to Vegas when it was open, have heard so much about it we wish we could have stayed there. Then there are the people who are just plain fans of "classic" (or cheesey) Vegas.

So two part question: 1. Do you think a property from the past coming back now has the potential to do good business?

And 2. which property would you love to see come back?

I would loooooooove to see the Stardust come back. My all time fave property. It was my first Las Vegas buffet experience, my first $6.99 prime rib dinner and my first live poker experience ( I was so nervous). It popped my vegas cherry in a way.

I was so sad when that came down in a giant cloud of dust. Man, I miss that place. It will never happen, but one can only dream

That's the thing, because so many of the greats have been demolished, they can never be brought back. Even if someone tried to rebuild them, it wouldn't be the same.

The Sands. When they imploded that building, I heard it was a hell of a job because that building had been built to stand the test of time.

I agree, the sands, and bring back the rat pack show there, and have a room full of old dime and quarter mechanical slots machines.. I would go there JUST for the nostalgia.

Vegas, when Vegas WAS Vegas

How about slots that you actually pull a handle to operate and actually spit out actual money? Actually!

Nostalgia certainly is something, but those places were shells of their former selves when they closed. Stardust was a sports book with a large casino attached to it. Every new neighbor Sands had around it just made it more sad to think this was as good as it got in Vegas at one point. I went to the Dunes one Tuesday night in its last year to meet a visiting friend and his comment was I bet the Greyhound station has more people in it than this place.

Sad to see history go, but really does it make any sense to say Vegas would be better off if the Sands was still around and the Venetian/Palazzo didn't exist?

I miss San Remo...I wish they'd get rid of the Hooters theme and just get back to the old place where everyone felt like it was home and we'd go downstairs and gamble in our slippers and pj pants late and night or in the middle of the night if we couldn't sleep. Everybody knew each others name and there was the lounge with free music when you walked in.

Build new resorts, sure -- but make them Las Vegas resorts. Not Disneyesque homages to the great cities of Europe. It's almost like we want people to forget they're in Las Vegas.

Come to Las Vegas! It looks like Paris! (Or New York, or Venice, or Rome...) We're turning ourselves into Epcot Center for adults who are afraid to travel abroad.

Whats wrong with that? Tropicana and Flamingo have billed themselves as surviving members of Old Vegas and its earned them declining revenues and room rates. Where I live now if someone says they are going on a trip to Vegas of course people ask where are you staying. If they said Paris or Venetian people would think its cool and talk about it. If you said Tropicana they would assume you are just cheap or on a strict budget and say nothing more.

"Old Vegas" is around, visitors who makes these businesses successful just don't seem to care.
