Default There is no difference between a real estate agent and a used car salesman.

Everyone note that Greatday is a real estate agent. He has stated in his recent posts that the Vegas real estate market has stablized. He has also mentioned that there're tons of employment here in the Las Vegas area. My posting in regards to low employment is bad for his business. His goal is to continue the relocations of families from other states into the Las Vegas Area. If families stop moving here, he doesn't make any money.

People who are in the process of moving to Vegas, I say BEWARE!!! I have been here for 4 months without employment. I have sent out hundreds and hundreds of resumes and applications. Maybe I'm just having bad luck, or maybe there're just no jobs at this time. Do your homework, I didn't. Now I'm paying for it.

Like I said previously, there is no difference between a real estate agent and a used car salesman. They'll say anything to make a sell.

By the way, it's 5:30am. FOX 5 news reporters just did a report on the High Employment Level in the Vegas area. Need I say more.

Sorry - GD does not sell RE in Las Vegas. Nor did he say the RE market here has stabilized. And it has not.

The employment picture remains good with vast hiring coming. The residental construction industry is certainly in big trouble and down substanially. That's about it.

If you read through the last year or more of these postings you will find dozens pointing out that it is not a great tech town. It remains not a great tech town. A mid-level techie here without specific experience in gaming or older systems will likely have a hard time.

You have again proven the rule.

Hello Olecapt,

Are you currently working? If you're, THAT'S GREAT!!!! Not be rude, but you cannot feel what I am currently feeling. Its sucks! Granted I do not expect to make $80,000 as I did in San Francisco. But I do expect to be offered something in the $30,000 range. At this point, I'll take anything.

I do agree with you. Employment will hit Vegas big in the future. There are quite a few projects being developed. From what my neighbors are telling me, we're talking years; 2010 and 2011 before they're completed.

Thank you for your imput and consideration my friend.

Please, keep in mind that Olecapt is also a "real estate agent" - and yes, he is working - hard. And, I might add, he is damn good at what he does!

I not diminishing your situation one bit - I understand your frustration. That said, I am wondering if one of the biggest problems is that your specialties are not a marketable commodity in Las Vegas? Could that be a problem?

A suggestion perhaps: If you have a BA degree (or higher), perhaps you could explore the requirements to do substitute teaching in CCSD?

Hi, I was thinking about moving to vegas next year, and I'm bringing along my kids, part of the reason I am moving there is, because my profession (Certified Medical Coder) was greatly needed as well as greatly paid. I am from Galveston Texas a historical tourist town with a beach. And Tech jobs are very needed around these parts, more so in hour neihboring city Houston. I don't want to have the same problem when I go there with my kids.Does anyone know how needed are coders there.

I have seen some. Check out the Review Journal. I don't know what you make there, but Coders start out between $12 and $15. This totally depends on the hospital you work at. My son's girlfriend is a nurse. She supplied these numbers to me.

Good luck.

The suggestion of getting a cell from Walmart and using a 702 number was suggested in this thread. IF someone actually takes this advice what happens when employers want them to come in for an interview and they are actually living in another state??

You'll either have to be willing to fly in that night or just be honest and tell the employer you aren't here yet and when you are planning to.
Best bet: Try to secure employment before you move here, or you will end up like alot of the poster's here that can't find work because they upped and moved here without a job first. That is worse than staying put until you have a job first.

But that is the rub PinkString. Virtually none of the non-specialized skilled jobs below 75K or so are available to you until you live here. And it is for cause. The local hirers have developed that habit after thousands of people they hired no showed. Did not really want to move to Vegas when push came to shove.

So I recomment a 702 phone number and a local address. They want you in the next day you fly in or tell them you are back wherever cleaning up loose ends. You can get a 702 phone number from Skype real cheap.
