Actually, smoking bans tend to be in liberal leaning states. Conservative southern states have not passed smoking bans, or exempt businesses that do not allow minors. The only state in what most people would consider to be the bible belt with a smoking ban in bars is NC (but a business that does not serve food or alcohol is exempt as is their single reservation casino and any potential future casinos). AL, KY, MS, SC, TX and WV have no smoking bans at all. AR, GA, FL, TN, and VA all exempt businesses that ban minors (bars/casinos/tracks/OTBs) from their state smoking bans.

Libertarians would take up the fight if you were being forced to go someplace where smoking - or any other objectionable act - were taking place. You have the freedom to choose to go elsewhere.

While you think second hand smoke is killing you look at the chemicals they put in your food and water. So you don't smoke it just digest it. Your house hold cleaning products are more toxic than second hand smoke. This crap goes into the water supply which then is used to water or food which then is sold to us to eat. It is a vicious cycle that big money controls. Anybody ever heard of acid rain man made and we drink it. So just find casinos that have good ventilation systems there are many of them.

That's right. They're more concerned about controlling the uterus and making sure nothing about dinosaurs is taught in school than smoking.

I didn't want this post to be about the morality of an indivual smoking. I believe that as long as it does not harm people it should be allowed. I fully agree that businesses should be able to allow or dissalow smoking as they please. I just hope that more see that most people don't want to be around it. Yes, casinos should cater to heir customer and if their Chinese whale wants to smoke in their non smoking business then make a judgement call and let him.

I was more speaking to the amount of people in this town that still smoke. It is their right but I am personally against smoking. I would like to see more businesses/ buildings make smokers get away from entrances where it affects people's ingress to th building. I think we will make progress albeit slowly- and no the government should not be involved. We nonsmokers need to let it be known that we prefer non smoking places, will visit them instead of smoking areas / businesses. We ned to fine smokers who throw their butts onto our roadways and neighborhoods.

Well, all litterbugs should be fined.

It does harm people, but it still should be allowed. A lot of things are harmful, but are personal choices.
