Been there and done the Strip on NYE 2 years ago...If you like shrieking WOOO girls (and you may at your age) and people puking on your feet you'll love being trapped on LV Blvd for hours. The fireworks are great but everything else entertainment wise has all the prices jacked up, especially if you want to see Fergie or top entertainers in clubs. It is very early when all the sidewalks are blocked off with wooden blockades so you can't walk in front of the hotels and are forced into the street. You cannot move from one hotel to the next, much less get in to your own hotel without a lot of risky attempts. You are literally standing with thousands and thousands of people and it's not family oriented like NYC! The only way we made it back into Harrahs after fighting the crowd so that we could see the fireworks from our Harrahs view suite was to push, push, and hold our room key up in the air until the security at Harrahs that were on duty at the only casino door open in the whole hotel saw us and how panicked we were and he pushed out and grabbed us and got us back in Harrahs. Oh, and be careful, as some of the best pickpockets in the world are out on the Strip that night!!

I never thought about pick pockets being there. now that you mention it that would be the best time to do it even for amatures.
Also what's a woo girl?

I didn't say it was a reason not to go; it was just a warning to wear your long johns. Besides people drink on NYE making it feel even colder. But people don't realize how cold it can be here. Tourists think it's always hot and don't come prepared.

If you wear a jump suit and helmet snowmobiling you'll sweat.

I've been here most of my life. Sometimes it's not so bad, but most of the time NYE is very cold. And, besides being a skier, I grew up in the east thinking everyone had three feet of snow all winter, so I know the difference, and I know when I've nearly gotten frost bite. Dyn is right about the FSE can of pee keeping the heat in though. I think Fremont St is probably better for partying than the Strip on NYE too. But a lot (allot?) of people come for the fireworks.

BTW: I invented snowmobiles (in my mind) when I was a little kid hauling my sled up the hill all day for another ride.

It's pretty cold but we often have warm snaps. Every winter we seem to have a week where we dip down below freezing to 28...and we are warned to turn off our sprinklers and cover palm trees.
I've never thought NYC got very cold. 47 in December seems warm.

A drunk girl yelling WOOOOOO non stop. They are quite annoying IMO.

Personally I hate NYE and would avoid going out anywhere.

Up until 2011 I lived in NYC my whole life. Mostly in Greenwich Village.
Trust me...there used to be nothing family oriented about New Years eve in the city.
Mayor Gestapo Giuliani cleaned up Times Square big time when he took office.
In the late 80s / early 90s, the tourist used to get mugged when they were walking across 8th Ave on their way back to their hotels.
Not one or two muggings....HUNDREDS!
Happened every year.
Fast forward to 2012---same location---same time----and you can't blow a booger out your nose cause it most likely will hit a cop.

If anyone thinks that EITHER place is even relatively family oriented, on NYE, then they get what they deserve. You can not be that off your rocker!!! I wouldn't take a small child or even an underage teen to those places then. Wouldn't take a small child to Las Vegas (Strip) ever. Too much of a pain. There are SO many other places that are geared toward those age groups that you would be a fool to waste your time and money.
