last time i was in las vegas i paid i think $15 for the shuttle from and to airport-hotel in the stip..
how much is it nowadays?

i was thinking if there are 5 of us, then i may save more if i use a van taxi or even rent a car.. what do you think?

I did the airport shuttle in Sept. It was $15 round trip per person. I rented a car when I was there in April. It was under $20 a DAY for the car. If you will use the car more (and I recommend having one) than just getting to and from the airport, a rental car makes more sense IMO. Well, that would be depending on how long you are there, I suppose. I had my rental car from Sun-Wed morning and it was around $60-$65 or so. That is still less than the $75 you would pay to shuttle 5 people. Split the cost of gas between everyone.

You may not come out way ahead money wise either way, but factor in the convenience a car brings and it would be worth it to me.

I agree with ElleTea, too. But if you want to splurge a bit, look into a limo ride. I bet you can find it for about $50, and split 5-ways, that could be a fun $10 per person. Ask the driver to take you down the Strip. Unlike a cab, you are paying flat fee and don't have to worry about the extra time.

Once I did this with some friends. We were staying downtown. On the way from the airport, one of the guys realized that he had not packed any socks for his trip. So we asked, and the limo driver detoured us to a Target store nearby to take care of the socks shortage. The looks we got while sitting in the limo at the door of Target on a Thursday night while our buddy was buying socks were some of the best moments of the weekend.

I would take a cab. With 5 people, it will be less expensive than the shuttle and you will go directly to your hotel without stopping all over the place. No hassles, just get in the taxi line. There are plenty of cabs that will seat 5. The others are right about a rental car being cheaper but then you have to drive and driving on the strip is stressful. I am assuming you don't know the city. If you know Vegas and have other places you want to go, get the car.

I booked EZ Rental via Orbitz. Yes, they shuttle you to the rental building.

Also keep in mind that if you do not use the shuttle you will not be at their mercy when it is time to go back to the airport. It can be really frustrating stopping at so many places on your way back to the airport at the end of the trip.

When I came to LV for vacation, I always viewed my time as valuable. Paying a little more for a cab or rental car got me to what I wanted to be doing with my time faster than the shuttles. So after doing the shuttle once, I never did it again. The stops at every casino and hotel before mine were more than my patience could handle when I knew those holy green felt pastures were waiting for me.

I must have gotten lucky when I used the shuttle. Ours was the first hotel they stopped at from the airport and the next to last one they stopped on the way to the airport. Our ride was very fast and easy.
