What does everyone pay for monthly pool service and what do you get for it?

Most pool companies on average charge

$40-$50 chemical only service

$75-$120 Full Service

It all depends on the pool since every pool is different. Best thing to do is call a few pool companies and let them give you bids on price and what they will do for you while they service it. You will want someone reliable and reputable, so ask for references so you can check if they are legit. Also Make sure they have a valid business license and liability insurance.

I don't understand why anybody needs to pay for a pool guy monthly. The chemicals are the only thing you really need to know how to do. It's basically a scam the guy comes out throws some chemicals in and then sweeps the pool for 10 minutes if your lucky. The only thing I have a pool guy do is clean my filters ever 3-5 months since that is a total pain to do.

I gotta disagree with ya, the pool needs attention weekly, and it's amazing how time passes when your busy, and by the time you remember your pool is already in trouble.

Yes you can shock it back into shape

But for the money to have someone else worry about it, is .. well for me.. peace of mind.

Also, as I have come to learn, pools have sometimes a filter system that is not well equipped to handle weekly vacuuming-type cleaning. A good pool guy has a portable filter unit for this type of cleaning, which greatly reduces the stress on your filter.

If your pool is setup properly, you should never have to shock it. I literally never shock my pool and never get algae.

I adjust my CYA level to about 80ppm in the springtime. Between spring and summer I test chlorine once a week and make minor adjustments to the salt water generator % runtime to control the amount of chlorine produced to keep the pool chlorine around 6ppm. By summer (now), the salt water generator will be set at 100% and I just leave it there until October. I'll test chlorine weekly anyways, but generally it doesn't need any adjustment.

I test PH and add acid weekly to attempt to keep the PH around 7.5.

I skim and brush my pool once a week to every two weeks depending on the weather and how much junk ends up in the pool.

That's it. I could easily leave my pool for a month (I've done it) and have zero algae. There would just be a lot of trash at the bottom to skim out when I get back.

Well, to each his own, I guess. As for me, I'm perfectly happy to spend $25/week to have 24/7 access to a beautiful setting and a refreshing pool to jump into whenever I feel the urge.

We do the same. It is almost a wash as the cost of the chemicals and such are almost the same as the pool guy. We're comfortable with our choice to have the pool man watch the pool.
