I lived on the east side of town for many years, but it really became crappy. There are things over there that I like better than the west or NW part of town, but don't want to put up with the bad stuff in order to get to the good stuff. The West (Summerlin, Desert Shores, Peccole Ranch, The Lakes, etc.) and NW (Kokopelli, Centennial Hills, etc.), and maybe the SW, parts of Las Vegas will more than likely stay in better shape due mostly to HOA regulations which, in spite of what you hear, are not hard to live with. After all they are there to protect your property values. I like the rural preservation neighborhoods too, although the city counsel that is on the take from developers sell those people out on a regular basis.

And don't rule out Hooterville (Henderson). It's all the same.

Rent a place for six months and get to know the area before you decide where you will be permanently is the best advise. Your tastes won't be the same as most of ours.
Well said. I know at leats 60% of my neighbors because of my kids that play with their kids. If my oldest goes to the nearby cul-de-sac to play, better believe I know who and what goes on in that cul-de-sac. I also have a trampoline, slip-n-slide, swing set, sand box and misters that attract a lot of kids to my back yard. My only rule for the neighborhood kids is that I get introduced to their parents before they enter my backyard.

Its funny seeing all of the parents getting forced to stop by and say hello. Some kid's parents just give their kids a phone number for me to contact or they ask their kids to bring them my number. Weird.

Yeah, MY first choice was NC or possibly parts of TX (I have family there). We've been down to NC several times to look around, see where things/places are and the people could not have been MORE friendly. And proud to be there! I've just yet to come across someone in regards to Vegas that's like- this place rocks! (For families). If I were single, no kids...or really just no kids...I think I'd love a place like Vegas? And I don't mean just the strip. I just can't seem to find the wealth of family connections, communities, things like that- in Vegas. Not to knock anyone at all because I truly set out with an open mind about this. We're going out on vacay in Oct and agreed we'd take some time to go look at the area more. Buuut again...no one seems to be quite the cheerleader for the place like I've found to be true in TX and NC.

They're here. But they seem to be lurking this time around. This isn't the first "Is Las Vegas a friendly place" thread.

Also, you have to compare apples to apples. Are you considering moving to Dallas or Charlotte? Or are you considering moving to a small Texas or Carolina town, which by default is going to be more friendly.

I understand...

San Antonio...possibly Austin- the suburbs of either. Or, the suburbs of Raleigh. Neither being small towns really...

I've had a few people DM me regarding Vegas and they have some "not so friendly" comments. The attitude seems to be more, "make the best of it." While that's great if we HAD to move...we don't, REALLY. I was just looking to move for a better quality of life for my boys. So, I don't want to move to a "make the best of it" situation when that's what we're doing now. Verses moving to a "better" life as a whole...hope I'm making sense here...

You need to get over it. There are lots of nice places to live. If you have a way to gain employment there that will support a reasonable life style go for it.

I can list nice places to live with young children by the scores...if money is not an object.

Start out with old Palo Alto. You can't do much better. Or Beverly Hills...Or Old Westbury ...or Pittsford NY or Greenwich CN or the triangle in NC. There are hundreds if not thousands of places in the US if money and/or jobs is not an issue.

If however bang for the buck or employment is an issue...it gets more complex.

What is it that you are working?

I don't want to be that negative guy online.....but what you said isn't going to happen here unless you like walking through casinos to get to movies, riding go-karts with hung over people visiting town, playing in the back yard with an 8 foot concrete wall around you. I like LV a lot, and we've had a great time.....but after 2 years we're ready to run.

Thanks Lvoc- I'll work on "getting over it". Although...I'm not sure what I'm to "get over" as I'm not having a problem? lol I was simply ASKING for input on an area that I do not live. I'm quite aware of the rest of info you passed along though, thanks.

esas- I don't believe you're being negative, just honest. I, personally, LOOOOVE going to LV. But, that's with my adult friends and husband. Love it! We have such an awesome time and can't wait to get back for those few days a year we go. However, I've heard what you mentioned on repeat about 100xs now via this forum, other forums, and research from people who live there. THAT is what concerns me. If it's the "desert" my husband likes...then TX seems to be more friendly in the sense of easily accessible family-type things that aren't mixed with the Adult playground of Vegas. Again, NOT knocking the place because I truly love it. But I think for THIS scenario....it's probably not the best fit.

Thanks again everyone!

As for my experience, my neighbors are great! They watch over the place when I'm not there, pick up solicitors junk etc. I have their phone numbers, they'll call and and let me know everything is alright. I couldn't ask for better neighbors and I'm not even there all the time.

My plan was to just introduce myself and be friendly and go from there. Not overly pushy and bothersome. But I just struck up a conversation and it went from there. The neighbor across the street did tell me that he'd talk to me more in a week than he'd talked to his next door neighbor in ten years This particular although nice and waved, wasn't much of a talker or interested in getting to know his neighbor more.

I've yet to hear too many rave reviews of how friendly the people are??? I don't need to live in Maybury but friendly people would be nice...

Suggestions?
How old are your boys? If they are teens then it wont really matter where you move. A new family moved across the street from me with 5(FIVE) teen aged boys. These 5 teens had no trouble attracting every other teen in the community with a skate board, tight jeans and iPhone.

I do not live too far from the VA hospital by the way.

von949 our boys are 2, 2, and 8. And my 8 yr old is one of those "deprived" kids that doesn't have a cell phone or ipad. I know, I know...horrible mom, party of one!! However, he did just get an ipod shuffle and is in heaven. lol

How's the traffic getting to the hospital?
