My husband has decided he's not ready to rule out Vegas. It looks like he may be working at the new VA hospital which leaves me to find a "family friendly" area in Vegas for our 3 boys. I've talked to some people who have older children and live on the East side of town and say that it's all in what you make of it.
I've yet to hear too many rave reviews of how friendly the people are??? I don't need to live in Maybury but friendly people would be nice...

Suggestions?

The people in my neighborhood aren't friendly. My mother in law has a couple neighborhood friends. My aunt has none. My coworkers don't hang out with their neighbors. They hang out with people from work.

If you're Mormon, the east side will be great because many of your neighbors are LDS and you're immediately part of the temple community. I don't feel particularly welcome by that community. The fact that I brew beer, roast coffee and smoke cigars probably has something to do with it.

I disagree. Since moving here in February we have much interaction with our neighbors who have not only been friendly but helpful. Much more frirendly than the neighborhood I lived in for 27 years in O.C.

Well thanks for the honest feedback. The people I've had the opportunity to speak with that live there all keep saying the same "you just have to find the people and make the best of it" . But that's not really the attitude i was wanting to relocate my family with

When you have kids you will have friends in Las Vegas, or anyplace, because the kids make them for you. It doesn't matter which part of town, except you will find better schools (thus better drugs, better dressed gangs in nicer cars, etc.) in the NW or in Summerlin.

I lived on the east side of town for many years, but it really became crappy. There are things over there that I like better than the west or NW part of town, but don't want to put up with the bad stuff in order to get to the good stuff. The West (Summerlin, Desert Shores, Peccole Ranch, The Lakes, etc.) and NW (Kokopelli, Centennial Hills, etc.), and maybe the SW, parts of Las Vegas will more than likely stay in better shape due mostly to HOA regulations which, in spite of what you hear, are not hard to live with. After all they are there to protect your property values. I like the rural preservation neighborhoods too, although the city counsel that is on the take from developers sell those people out on a regular basis.

And don't rule out Hooterville (Henderson). It's all the same.

Rent a place for six months and get to know the area before you decide where you will be permanently is the best advise. Your tastes won't be the same as most of ours.

The VA Hospital provides reasonable access only to the west. To the west for "soccer mom" neighborhoods you go first to Providence, then to Centennial Hills and then to western Summerlin . Aliante would work as well and provide the best commute but stay north of the 215 over the high school.
