There are a few local jewelers that advertise on TV that they have the best pays for gold. Anthem jewelers is one. And Red Rock jewelers on Lake Mead. Another one that I can't recall.
I say go to a few and pick the best pays. Or try ebay, where you will probably get the most for items.
Pawn shops will give you the lowest price usually. Go there only when really desperate.

Depends on the quantity. In general, you want to sell to a refiner. The better refiners will pay 90%+ of the actual value of the gold. And their website will list their prices paid and current percentages.

1) Do not sell gold coins. They may have value above and beyond the gold. Check with a coin collector first. Some pieces of jewelry are also worth more than the precious metal.

2) Make sure there's no gemstones still attached to the stuff you're selling. Have them removed (or grab a pair of needlenose pliers and do it yourself) before shipping the gold to a refinery. Refiners don't buy gemstones. And they might be "lost in shipping."

3) If we're talking a decent chunk of metal, it may be worth buying an acid test kit to determine the purity of your gold pieces and then weighing it with a gram scale (available at every smoke shop in Las Vegas). You can get a good idea what your gold is worth, and then decide if it's worth the effort.

Sahara gold is good. But know what you have and what it's worth before you walk in. You can google the market price of gold any time. I don't know if it was just a fluke but I also got a really good price at that pawnshop on Main, I think, that's on TV.

I would always suggest going to several places in different areas. There are several jewelry stores on Sahara that are further east than Sahara Gold. They are close to a billiards parlor. You notice I'm not saying any names here. In my opinion, they cooperate and agree to pay X for gold. You will get the same price from all these people. But that's just my opinion. It's also my opinion that you will get more money elsewhere.

Has anyone used any of the mail-order refineries? It works basically like those rip-off "cash for gold" companies that advertise on TV. Except the legit refineries pay around 95% of the actual value of the gold. They post their buying rates and percentages for anyone to see and compare.

I don't see a down side. Why take such a financial bath with pawn shops and jewelry stores unless you need the money RIGHT NOW?

I agree with Scoop. My mother went to various jewelry stores and pawn shops to compare. She ended up sending it to a refinery and got much more than all quotes from the shops.
