Hello, my husband, six year old son and I are going to be moving to Vegas pretty soon and I would like to know which areas are the safest and preferably close to the CA/NV state line because my husband will be working there. We will only be living there for six months so we will be renting. We currently live in Orange CA and pay $1600.00 a month for rent. So something in that range, but if we can live in a safe area and save some money, that'd be nice. I would like to be near stores and things to do. Thanks!

If by "close to the CA/NV state line" you mean Primm, you're talking 35-40 miles from Las Vegas. The closest "safe area" is probably Southern Highlands, which is adjacent to Interstate 15 and very nice. But I wouldn't call that close to the state line, although by Southern California standards, maybe you wouldn't consider that a bad commute.

Just build an underground bunker near the state line. That would be nice and safe.

But AliMeli's question shows a complete lack of research. He/She is looking for:

1) Something close to the state line.

2) Something short term -- six months.

3) Something inexpensive.

4) Something next to stores and "things to do."

Short of buying lottery tickets, what is there to do near the state line? Absolutely flippin' nothing. That's what. There's that religious cult that used to be near Zzyzx. Other than that, I can't think of ANYTHING to do there.

Yeah, that wouldn't be a bad commute. He has about a 45 min drive to work currently, so that'd work. Thank you, I will look into that area.

Rational civilized places go for Southern Highlands. If you want an adventure...try for Sandy Valley. You will be stuck in the middle of nowhere...but the locals like it a lot...including some of Las Vegas rich and famous. Hey if it is for six months? And note the worker gets home early enough he can drive the 40 minutes to the nearest gas station .

I live in Southern Highlands and love it. Not tons of shopping but 4 miles down the road is enough shopping to keep you busy.

If the husband is working for the casinos, there is an apartment complex in Primm for workers. Try there.
Or, check out any apts near the South Point casino. There are a few right by the I-15 freeway.
Or Silverado Ranch. Or Southern Highlands.
