I wouldn't know where to get a couple cats although that sounds like a good idea. I have blocked all the corners on the roof with chicken wire, they just move somewhere else.

I've been shooting them with a .177 airgun. I've shot em before with a .22 rifle but it's way too loud. My neighbor, an FBI agent, just laughs at me, but other neighbors might not be as cool. There's gotta be something easier. People eat pigeons? Flying rats...really? Wow that's disgusting.

Or you could let them live their lives in peace instead of murdering them.

+2 for my ignore list

I'm with Topaz. I can't believe some of you in here are actually shooting them.
There are other more peaceful ways of doing this. Research it!

It's the national dish of Morocco. And don't knock it 'til you try it. Pigeon -- aka "squab" -- tastes great. Of course, I don't recommend eating urban pigeon, which is raised on a diet of brake dust (from drinking contaminated water) and garbage.

So far this is the only voice of reason. It's a bird for Christ sake.
Buy one of those fake owls or call a guy over to 'pigeon proof' your house.
There's a ton of companies out there.

I had two fake owls on each side of the house. They both had pigeon poop on them. City pigeons barely move out of the way when a car passes by. I have had them up for over a year just because we are used to having them and from far away they look kinda real.

As far as hiring a professional, it may run between $200-400 to have someone come out. Some people may not have that to spend.

A .177 pellet won't penetrate through the wings. You would have to do a head shot which of course is very difficult unless you've tuned the air rifle to slow down the pellet. If you have an inexpensive Chinese-made air rifle, this can be difficult to do as they tend to manufacture their rifles for outstanding velocity rather than accuracy. Make sure you are using a pellet that is a round nose or hollow point. Most pointed nose pellets are notorious for their inaccuracy. ALSO, don't use too heavy a .177 pellet as most springs in .177 airguns cannot handle the heavy pellet and over time will break.

I've had excellent luck with a .25 pellet gun - much more energy transmitted. In many states, it is now legal to hunt wild turkeys with a .25 pellet gun, which should give you the confidence that any body shot to a pigeon will be lethal. A .22 pellet gun will also do the trick.

I have one of these WEB-Patriot-25 - Webley Patriot .25 Beech . I don't take shots unless I have a kill shot, and this airgun in rural areas in other states where it is legal has taken out all pest birds you can imagine plus gophers, raccoon, and coyote.

Because these pellets transmit a lot of energy, you need to be careful.

Try this passive product. Transparent Bird Gel - Bird Deterrents - Products

We used this - it is AMAZING. You use a caulking gun to install it. Then, spray it with a woman's hair spray which gives it a thin crust.

Within a few days you won't have pigeons. It is as if all the pigeons get the memo to leave your house alone.

Thanks sportyandmisty I might give that a try. I have the mesh on every corner of the roof the pigeons don't nest they just hang out on various parts of the roof all day. Most shots are within 10 yards these pigeons don't scare easily.

For the "let them live in peace" crowd I hope you're not being hypocritical and spraying for any pests. Just let those ants, scorpions, black widows, etc live - they're not hurting you. Selective killing when it's convenient.

BBQ at scoops house I'll bring the birds.

Edit to add that its really no different than a rat infestation.
