Where's the 'Beverly Hillbillies' of Las Vegas?
I remember reading awhile back (maybe 2 years or so) about plans to open a casino themed upon the 60's show 'The Beverly Hillbillies'. If I remember correctly, it was going to part-owned by the son of prize-fighter Max Baer, who also happened to play a role in the 60's sitcom.
Whatever happened came of this idea?

oh my...just checked it on the net...looks like they're still fighting it out! It's been going on since 2005 and they still haven't broke ground yet. Seems residents are very opposed to it. Whole thing seems kind of hokey.

Douglas County is the Reno area...just south of Reno/Carson City. Actually further from Las Vegas than Los Angeles.

Yup, it's in Douglas County, although that puts it about 45 minutes or so south of Reno. Actually, it's planned at the very north end of Douglas County, just over the hill, so the looks of the place and the traffic doesn't impact Minden/Gardnerville. Carson City has to deal with it but doesn't get any taxes from it.
It's passed a bunch of hurdles in Douglas County. For example, Douglas had a height restriction and originally denied Baer's plans bcause he wanted a taller hotel. They have since agreed to the taller building, but he didn't get another thing he wanted. It was a tall oil derrick sign with a gas flame on top. He wants it, Douglas County has still nixed the idea, so that's the only point still in contention. We'll see how it ends up.
The hotel/casion is planned for a vacant plot of land at US395 and Topsy Lane. It's very close to where US 395 and US50West intersect. US 50 is the road from carson City that heads up to Incline Village and then through Stateline and South Tahoe (Calif).
As for Douglas County being in the "Reno area" . . . thems fightin' words, OleCapt. All I can say is thank goodness we're 50 miles or more from the "big city" but a million miles away in terms of environment.
ON EDIT: Oh yeah, there's one other thing going on with this project. "Jethro" is from Incline Village and wants to build his casino. Then, there's another guy from Stateline who previously received approval to build some housing near US3995 and Topsy. The problem is that Bear's project is immedialy adjacent to the other guy's planned housing development.
The other guy doesn't want the hotel to be built because he claims it will detract from his housing project. The hotel will be in direct view of his houses so he has threatened to sue to stop the hotel/casion project. So, it looks like the rich folks from the lakes will be battling over the scraps down the hill for the forseeable future.

I love it...just like Henderson...does not want to be part of Las Vegas...
But tell us. Is Douglas County in the Reno/Sparks MSA?

OleCapt -
Here we go. Here's some information from a document listing the Metropolitan and Micropolitan Statistical Areas in Nevada.
Nevada Metropolitan and Micropolitan Statistical Areas
16180 Carson City, NV Metropolitan Statistical Area
21220 Elko, NV Micropolitan Statistical Area
21980 Fallon, NV Micropolitan Statistical Area
23820 Gardnerville Ranchos, NV Micropolitan Statistical Area
29820 Las Vegas-Paradise, NV Metropolitan Statistical Area
37220 Pahrump, NV Micropolitan Statistical Area
39900 Reno-Sparks, NV Metropolitan Statistical Area
Click here for the source document.
Another document from the USDOC, Bureau of Economic Analysis references the MSA for Douglas County. For brevity, the first sentence is written in part, "Douglas . . . is part of the Gardnerville Ranchos, NV, Micropolitan SA."
Click here for the source document.
So, it's clear that Douglas County (Minden/Gardnerville/Genoa/Stateline/Topaz Lake) is not part of the Reno-Sparks MSA.
Olecapt, I'm happy to have been of some help to answer you question.
One final thought, Olecapt:
I can also see quite a few differences between the Henderson-LV reference and your apparent thought that Douglas and Reno are in a similar situation. Hernderson-LV are immediately adjacent to each other. Their borders touch and it is effectively impossible for the average person to know when they pass the line . . . at least it is for me.
It is different in Douglas County, Carson City (County), and Washoe County (Reno). There are miles of open spaces between each of them; big or small, they each have their shopping areas; and it's easy for anyone to tell where one begins and the other ends. Effectively, each community has its own look and identity that's very different from the other communities . . . unlike the LV-Paradise-Henderson region.
Again, I'm glad I can help.

Made me look...
I have to admit that for impenetrable data the census bureau is no 1. You would think that clear graphics would be a way of life there. But no...
Anyway I think you are clearly correct. It is not part of the Reno/Sparks MSA and is (likely) in the Gardnerville Rancho micro whatever.
I would however assert it should be part of the Reno Sparks MSA...
Be kind of like leaving Palo Verde out of Los Angeles...you could...but why would you.
