The door itself probably isn't metal, then. I think orientation of the house has a lot to do with it. My east-facing door gets brutal sun until about 2pm. By then, the garage is up to 140 (without ventilation) and would take literally ALL NIGHT to get back down into the 90s.

I wouldn't want to run air conditioning in such conditions.

The Overhead Thermacore is what I put on my garage door which faces south. R value is actually 17.5.

With this door your garage would not get up to 140, probably 90 or less depending upon how the rest of the garage was insulated.
