I wonder if we could get this thread pinned? A lot of visitors might enjoy the information.
My daughters only liked the train ride there and back.

a couple other places i totally forgot about: pahrump is home to 2 wineries - the ONLY ones in nevada. there is the pahrump valley winery (the original winery) which has been here longer than i have (8 yrs). they have been using their own grapes to bottle their wine for years now & they have a restaurant that is delish! their sangria is to die for!!

the 2nd winery opened about a year ago - sanders or saunders family winery. i'm not sure if they are bottling with their own grapes yet, but they are getting rave reviews.
Bonnie Spring Ranch is indeed a bit run down and may close soon, so it's one of those "See it now before it's gone", propositions. That's a pretty part of Red Rock. I saw some wild horses last time I was out there.

I've never been to Pahrump even though I have friends that live out there. I've tasted the wine from Pahrump Valley Winery, and I enjoyed it. Grapes grow pretty well out here. I have them covering a trellis in my back yard.

Apparently the Pahrump Valley Winery is now using their own grapes to make wine, but not all of it. They still buy grapes from California, but I guess there are a few other growers in the Pahrump Valley too that they buy from. Pahrump Valley has always been a desert agricultural area. In the 60's and 70's we used to hunt quail in the cotton fields there. As Pahrump came into view heading there from Las Vegas there were miles of green fields of some of the finest Pima Cotton in the world. There was a cotton gin on the corner of SR 160 and SR 372 which later became a bar. There is a casino on the site now. Pahrump held an annual Harvest Festival into the 90s where people sold products they had grown on their own land. It was all farmland until someone decided it was better to build a retirement village. But even with the winery, Pahrump is still not very interesting as a tourist destination. Don't waste your time.

I've been hearing for five decades that Bonnie Springs is "a bit rundown" and probably won't be there much longer. It is almost exactly as it always has been. It's supposed to be rustic. I see wild horses and/or wild burros every time I go out that way. If you feed them they will come ...and there is plenty of water in the area for wild critters. You'll see Big Horny Sheep too, and if you are extremely lucky, you might see a Bobcat, and it's possible to see a Mountain Lion but if you do you should immediately go to Arizona and play the lottery.

that is your opinion & that's fine. pahrump is not vegas & will never be enjoyed by EVERYONE. there is more here than meets the eye. i've lived here almost 8 yrs & still haven't seen all there is to see in both vegas & pahrump. i will agree that the 1st time thru my response was 'that's it?!?!?', but if you enjoy the great sw outdoors, we've got PLENTY of that!

That's the second time you posted that photo and I am amazed that nobody has commented on the Aurora TR-3B "Flying Triangle" clearly visible in the sky...

ZOOM in on the object at the 10:00 position and you can see the electromagnetic disturbance around it...

Well us 50+ gf's on our girl trips always love to hit Happy Hour at Carnaval Court between the Imperial Palace and Harrahs,....big circus tent with extreme bartending and free music on the stage with cover bands all afternoon and night and dancing. If you get there early enough it is fun to sit in the circle part to see the bartenders performing. It may be a little noisy due to construction but I hear it is still open. After 8 pm it becomes just a little too crazy for my liking but we usually try to meet there around 2 to 3 pm. Drinks are a little pricey but it's worth it...The bartenders like to pour free shooters in your mouth while standing on the "circle" when it's somebody's celebration so expect to get a little hammered...LOL

Just in general, you talk about renting a jeep. Unless you plan to off road (which probably wouldn't be a good idea in a rental), just rent a car. But DO rent a car, it opens up a lot to do. If you want something more fun, rent a convertable. I don't know about January, but I've been in Vegas in December, and it was great convertable weather.

Lots of outdoorsy places to drive to. Mt Charleston, Red Rock Canyon, Lake Mead/Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire. There are also a lot of locals casinos aroung the LV Valley. You may not want to gamble, but there lots of food deals and entertainment at these places. They act as sort of local entertainment hubs for the areas they're in. For instance, there's a really good BBQ place at Green Valley Ranch Station (Lucille's.) That's only one.

If you haven't before, you could do the Grand Canyon tour. I did this by flying there out of Boulder City (which is a damn sight better than driving several hours each way)

This is just generic, touristy, non-strip stuff. If you have some specific things you like, let us know.

Read about the Zip Line - and open to other fun ideas.
Would love to rent a jeep for a day or two but not sure where.
Help me plan my vacation.
