Every other major city has one so why not Vegas? Somewhere downtown? Maybe that would help with the transformation process of the area. Just make sure it does not end up like a typical Greyhound station.

I would like to see a Venn diagram of the real estate that links bus, monorail, and the proposed rail line to nowhere, er, Victorville. "Null set" is the likely winner here.

These sorts of stations don't exist much in the west. Some cities don't even have a central bus station but a couple of spots where a lot of lines meet but no real building. Even in SF where transit use is high you have one station for buses going everywhere else, but the subway and the SF city bus don't go there. Simple reason being most people in the west drive to a parking lot to use transit in many cases so a dedicated building without parking doesn't really make sense. He SSTT works for the south side of town and for airport parking, but obviously that is not a very central location to use.

I don't agree with that. You're right that in San Francisco, BART doesn't go directly to the Transbay Transit Terminal. But the Embarcadero station is just two blocks away, where BART also connects with every one of the SF Muni rail lines. That's close enough for me. When a lot of lines come together, it's not uncommon to have to walk a block or two at one of the hubs to get from one form of transportation to the other. And there are seven or eight Muni bus lines that stop at the Transbay Transit Terminal, and two other major SF Muni bus stops nearby (Ferry Building and Main & Mission) within a couple blocks, where another eight or so bus lines stop. I wouldn't be surprised if two dozen Muni bus lines had stops within a two block radius of the Transbay Transit Terminal.

In San Jose, we've got the Diridon Station, with stops for Caltrain, ACE (Altamont Commuter Express), VTA light rail, VTA local bus lines, inter-city bus lines (express bus to Santa Cruz for example), and the Downtown Shuttle.

Isn't Bonneville a transfer station by Charleston?

Exactly what I was thinking, I think that bus station is fairly central and a very nice facility btw. Even though I had a car, I took the bus on occasion.

Although I think what von was referring to is why there isn't an intermodal transit station centrally located. Am I right von?

They are in the process of constructing a commuter rail here in Orlando with an intermodal train/bus station in the works. On one side of the tracks is the central bus terminal, on the other side is an empty lot which will be converted into the "SunRail" station

At one time the Main Street Station casino was sort of a transportation hub. We had an Amtrak line to California back then and that was where you caught the train. There were plans to tie it to the bus lines as well, but I'm not sure that ever got done.

For the failure of the monorail, we have the Taxicab authority and the CC commission to thank for that. Jerks.

Read the OP before jumping to the wrong conclusions. A bus terminal is one building with all connections and it is built with intention to connect all transit options. If something is built and doesn't connect all options it almost always happens because the options aren't working together. And in Las Vegas nothing ever seems to work together. So building a 'terminal' just becomes a boondoggle. Yes SF is convenient relative to others in the west coast but its rare. And it doesn't have a taxi lobby nor private interests out to sabotage any public transit options either the way LV has. If some miracle benefactor came along and said I will build a free train from the airport the taxi lobby would make up some crap to derail it, pun intended.
