Las Vegas to Jean
I will be visiting LV in November and wanted to know if Jean is worth the drive for a short day trip. In past visits I have went to Red Rock Canyon which was a great visit and the Valley of Fire State Park was so/so because it seem liked a forever drive. How is the drive to Jean? Just 30 minutes? Any information is appreciated on Jean. Thanks

One does not "visit" Jean...there is no there there (sorry Dorothy).
It is a bump in the road community servicing tourists from So. Cal. They closed half of it to build housing for workers in the area
If you are feeling advenuresome of that sort...hit Pahrump. You can even drive by the Bordello just outside of town...you don't have to stop but the ladies in the car are often impressed. Most people in the US have never seen anv honest to god bordello. ...or buy fireworks that are illegal to shoot off anywhere I know of. Or go to the Pahrump winery. And yes you can actually purchase wine made from grapes grown in So Nevada.
Or go up Mt Charleston. We do have snow up there by November. Wear your shorts and get your picture taken in the snow...

I agree, Jean is the name given to a specific latitude and longitude, but there is nothing there.
If not Pahrump, try Blue Diamond if you want to visit a Mayberry type town. It's backdropped very nicely against the mountains. Great if you're into photography.

I think there is just a casino or two at Jean, NV....nothing else that I remember driving by...same for Primm, NV.
For a side trip from Vegas, maybe drive over to Mount Charleston...it looks great, especially if you are into hiking.

If you still decide to go to Jean there is a historic place 7 miles from Jean in Good Springs, NV called the Pioneer Saloon. The building was built in 1913, the bar itself was constructed in 1860. Probably the oldest saloon in Nevada with a 1/2 dozen VP machines. This was the bar that Clark Gable sat at while he waited to hear the fate of his wife Carole Lombard that was killed in a plane crash on nearby Mount Potosi. On top the pot belly heater is a hunk of metal from the wreckage that claimed the life of Carole Lombard. There are walls full of news articles and pictures about the incident inside the room with the pool table.

If you do make it to Jean and then into Good Springs, you might as well head on further south on I-15, about 11 miles from Jean to Primm, NV. There's a lot more to see and do down there than in Jean, although that ain't saying much. But if you are that far down the road, Primm has a lot more to offer than Jean. There's an outlet mall for those that want to do some bargain shopping. Three casinos with a lot more action than the two in Jean. And since Primm is on the California-Nevada state line you can walk over to the lottery store on the CA side and get lottery tickets there.

The only thing in Jean really is a prison and a couple of tourist traps. There is a dry lake just before it that is good for ATVs and Dirt Bikes.

LOL.
I was going to mention the only reason someone is visiting Jean is to visit an inmate.
Just wondering, is the toothless hooker fact or myth? I heard that rumor before.
