Hi Everyone,

If you know a real good authentic Japanese restaurant for Shabu Shabu, please advise. Thanks!

The Korean restaurants on Spring Mountain do a better job than the Japanese restaurants. Shabu may be a Japanese invention, but Korea elevated it to an art form.

Say more. I am a shabu shabu fan but have never seen anything workable in Las Vegas.

Our neighborhood Japanese Joint in Orange County was vastly better than anything here.

But I would pay some money for a good Shabu Shabu.

I am skeptical the the System will allow it to be served.

Well, you're not going to get Orange County quality in Las Vegas. For instance, the reviews for the now-closed San-Toki were universally 4-star by locals and 1-star by Californians. OP was asking for "real good." There are a handful of Korean places on Spring Mountain that do good shabu. I've had the shabu at Woonam Jung and it's quite good. It's not TAIWAN good. It's not SEOUL good. It's not even OC good. But it's a far sight better than the Japanese places I've tried around town.

Just keep in mind, this is a Korean restaurant that caters to the Korean community. And round-eyes might feel out of place. On a scale of 1-to-10, I'd give it a six.

First off when you say Shabu Shabu you mean a pot of boiling water in the middle of the table where you all help yourself right? None of this stuff of a small bowl set into a table and served by a person from behind the counter? Trays of vegetables, beef and tofu to feed the pot?

Just want to make sure we are talking about the same cuisine.

Yes, that's right. But I like a mildly-flavored broth when I do it at home. Ginger, garlic and some watered-down chicken stock. But, yes, boiling water and you cook your own food.

My inlaws are shabu fanatics. They all have induction cookers on their lazy susans for doing elaborate shabu parties. I'm quite the attraction at these parties -- because I know how to use transglutiminase to make "rainbow shabu."

Ahh thank goodness. You and I may disagree a bit but I always listen when you talk about food. However for 15 years of my life I ate shabu shabu at least every other week .

I agree the fluid should have a proper base and condiments. A light fish stock can also work.

And lots of Nori. The best time is as the stock boils down a bit and begins to thicken.

Ahhh yes.

Well, then I would go ahead and try Woonam Jung. Keep in mind I haven't been there in two years. But I wouldn't go there with particularly high expectations, either. It's like Dim Sum -- you can get good dim sum in this town. But it ain't never gonna be like San Francisco or Taiwan.

There is a very nice, small and authentic Shabu Shabu restaurant in Henderson. I have been there several times with friends. I suggest you make a reservation since the place is popular and tiny.
The name is Shabu Shabu Paradise, 1716 West Horizon Ridge Parkway, Henderson 89012.
