When Freemont Street was a 2-way street
Anyone here during that time? Oh, the memories.

I was, but I was young. I think they built the Fremont Street Experience when I was in my late teens or early twenties. I remember as a kid (elementry school) my grandmother would take me downtown to see the lights. We would drive down Fremont Street. Then we would stop in the Las Vegas Club gift shop and get me a piece of candy. She worked there and I would play with all the souveniers.

I remember it too. I was really too young to compare it to what it is now. I do remember the excitement soon after the canopy went up. My faminly had to go down there because of the "amazing sound system," "over one-million lights," and the wonderful light shows. I remember at the time being disappointed and thinking "big deal" about the whole thing, but I was a young teen and there wasn't much that was going to impress me at the time. Everytime family would come to town I was dragged along with them to see whatever new light show they had. I think today it might need some updating, but it seems that the tourists still stop in their tracks whenever it comes on.
Since we're going to walk down memory lane, anyone rememer the Fremont Street Reggae and Blues Club? I couldn't wait to turn 21 so I could go there. One side was live reggae and the other was usually blues or rock. They would also get some great regional punk, reggae, blues, or rock bands. Next to the Huntridge, that might have been my all-time favorite Las Vegas hangout. Like most great, unique things here though they couldn't compete with the casinos and went away, much like the Huntridge did. I did have some great times there though. I bet if it came back today it might have a fighting chance again. Oh, the good ol' days.

Was on my way to the show the night the roof came down at the Huntridge. That was an amazing place before the remodel screwed everything up. I miss it, there's nothing else quite like it.

Oh Man, we use to cruise Freemont Street. It was always so much fun, every Friday night. Never any problems down there, and all good clean fun, full of laughs and flirting.
Reggae and Blues Club, oh my, do I remember, and Huntridge, those were the best times.

One of my first memories of getting sloppy drunk was on Fremont Street. I had just gotten my first fake ID. Me and my friends started at the Binion's Horseshoe bar pounding $1 kamikazes for an hour or so, then went down to the Reggae & Blues club. The music was outstanding any night of the week! I woke up the next morning with a terrible hangover and not remembering too much. Later, my friends told me about how I puked in the flower bed in front of the Golden Nugget. Now that's embarrassing!
The new bars on E. Fremont are really something special. I just hope they can turn a profit without video poker. I have a friend in town from D.C. and I think we're going to hit these bars for a bit tonight!

Ha Ha. I think the flower bed in front of the Golden Nugget was the designating puking place. I have had many friends do the same.
Even though several of us would get rowdy, I always remember how cool the Metro officers were that were patrolling the area. There was hardly ever any trouble.
I haven't been downtown in quite awhile, I am going to have to go check it out now.
