partly [IMHO]because the doormen were never as dumb as the dealers....they don't split tips.....when the dealers made the big push to pool tips a lotta years ago, the IRS jumped at the Idea.....all they had to do was lean on ONE dealer in each joint and they knew EXACTLY how much they all made.
The doormen DO "split" tips. The money is not made from the average Joe at show break time, etc. The ridiculous money comes from the sex industry kickbacks, and the doormen could care less about showbreaks, etc. The typical "crew" currently is 3-4 doormen, one or two to load vehicles, the others are responsible to gather passengers headed to sex clubs, and document which driver owes--how much. The standard gentlemen's club pays $50/head to the driver, and doormen are "spoon feeding" both limo and cab drivers for a 50-60% vigorish. While most realize the gentlemen's club business is large in LV, only those involved, and working this angle realize "how" large. "Peak" times CAN, and DO result in $5000+ nights for each doorman, tax free. 99.9% of the public, state agencies,---and apparently, the IRS simply cannot believe the magnitude of the dollars involved. Very much like the old showroom "maitre d' " job on a larger scale.

The valet and door people at the Palms were recently shaken down by the IRS. This all started from the PURE club mess.

I do know, a doorman---"A" was fired, but the same practices are still used. Very hard to prove this, as both, drivers and doormen are very discrete. I find it amazing the IRS has not "nailed" one driver or doorman, and got them to spill their guts.
