Who does better money wise, a limo driver or a cab driver?? (job)

I remember reading in some book on statistics from the Chamber of Commerce that there are 14,000 taxies in Las Vegas, which is even more then NYC. That does seem like over kill. Do the poor saps who have to flag down a taxi here have to wait long?

Generally, there are @2200 taxis working the valley. Of this number, a percentage are "geographically" restricted--meaning, they cannot pick up on the "strip", airport, or downtown---the logic being, to serve the local populace. And, yes, during peak hours at the airport, show breaks,etc; the visitor to LV may have to wait for 10-15 minutes for a cab. The alternative is a limo, monorail, shuttle, or "duece"--- which will prove a far worse option. Taxi, is by far the most effecient, and cost effective means of door-to-door transportation in LV. Those who choose to visit during peak times, must simply accept a line at the airport, registration, restuarants, nightclubs, and the rest. The saavy visitor has learned where to "flag" a taxi.

I have driven both limo and taxi in LV for 10 years as of 9/08. I will assure you, the percentage of limo to taxi drivers making large money is about the same. I'm sure you understand the "system" currently in place, and know the real winners are the doormen, and "companies". Why, the doormen are allowed to "earn" in this manner, mystifies me, as the IRS should see them as "easy pickings".

partly [IMHO]because the doormen were never as dumb as the dealers....they don't split tips.....when the dealers made the big push to pool tips a lotta years ago, the IRS jumped at the Idea.....all they had to do was lean on ONE dealer in each joint and they knew EXACTLY how much they all made.

I agree to some extent. think there are taxi and limo drivers who just know how to make money and work the system. The rest wait in lines to get rides and wonder why they struggle and blame everybody else. The percentages probably are similar because I can think of many limo guys I know who struggle to get by and I know some taxi drivers who do very well. As for the doormen I hold no ill will. This is the system we work in. I have worked a door at a large hotel and understand both sides of the coin. A good door guy will put money in your pocket as well as his own and I personally am grateful for the doormen I deal with. The IRS...bite your tongue. The last thing anyone wants is those thugs knocking on our doors. I am just happy to be making my money and happy you are making yours. Hopefully we can all grow wealthy together.

I was not being harsh. The XFiles guy was basically calling citydriver a liar by saying " yea right" to the claims he was making. OK its not impossible to make that kind of money but for the majority of the drivers it about 30grand a year. i worked as a security officer at the bellagio for almost three years in talking with cls limo drivers who are stationed at bellagio they told me making that kind of money in this town has been increasingly difficult due to companies flooding limo and taxi drivers on the streets . at the time i was making 17 per hour told be to keep my job that i would do better plus i have benefits which they do not . now comes the supply and demand thing if an average driver makes 100000 per year people would be killing for these jobs instead they begging for applicants. one of the local news station doing a story on cab drivers says that an average driver makes 26000 per year . Usually people who brag about limo drivers making six figures are people in la la land drooling in the corner. this writer probably not even from las Vegas.

NO one said the AVERAGE driver is making $100k/yr. There are drivers in town using "driving" as a platform to conduct nefarious activities of ALL types---- supplying the visitor with an experience of decadance, and reaping huge profits. Do ALL drivers work in this manner----of course not. Is it possible for a driver in LV to earn $100k+/yr---- of course.
