Just came back to my hotel room. I arrived to your town yesterday and I'm leaving tomorrow.
Last time I visited Las Vegas was back in 2007 and boy how much this town has changed.
This is not the same good old Las Vegas anymore. Both me and my wife are very disappointed and I don't think we will visit again. Las Vegas is like a cheap Zoo now. My wife felt very unsafe walking down the strip. Demographics of visitors has changed drastically. Young adults drunk or on drugs everywhere. Shady characters all over the place. Homeless people are asking for money everywhere, people hustling for a dollar. This town is truly promoting sex and alcohol to our young adults and every casino floor looks like a glorified strip club with those party pits all over the place and young girls dancing half naked. You can't even find decent mature casino dealers anymore just young girls in half naked uniforms.
I feel sorry for all those hard working mature adult casino workers who are getting replaced by those young girls who probably got those jobs without any experience just for the age and looks. Terrible.

Las Vegas wasn't like this before. It seems this is a town now just for college kids and young adults who are waisting their money savings for those stupid nightclubs and bars.
Alcoholic drinks are expensive as well compared to just few years ago. $12 per mix drink....no thank you.

Thank you Las Vegas but this is our last visit. We felt very unsafe and misplaced.

Secondly its called SINCity for a reason!
...And third, LV has always been about the sex and wasting your money....or you could look at it as investing in a good time!

Agreed, Vegas is not what it used to be. For me it went down hill in the early to Mid 1990s with the great California migration. Population doubled, property values exploded and then the big crash.

I have been coming to Vegas since I was 16 and I'm 60 now. I live in Los Angeles. I still enjoy the ambience Vegas offers. It is unique and fun. However, one thing I have noticed, is casinos sign really long term contracts. I used to look forward to the chance I might see a special show (e.g. Elvis, Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor). Now it's a barrage of double jointed guys jumping on trampolines in endlessly different ways, the perennial Blue dudes, and the same comedians, shows and entertainers playing almost every time I come up.

Thats how Las Vegas is supposed to be. Secondly, get away from the strip and there are plenty of old tenured dealers and pit bosses wearing suits and long sleeved shirts and people eating quietly in the buffets with their grandchildren. There is more to Las Vegas than the Strip.

Kiddieville, screaming kids, baby buggies and worn out parents...sure has changed, and, IMO not for the better. Years past I went there to gamble and see the shows, my last visit was in 2010 and it was indeed, my last visit.

I agree...2007 was the calm before the storm - ie the economy crisis - and I have to say even 5 years ago things were different than they are now...

BUT NOT REALLY...I just see more homeless people than before, and the drivers have gotten more aggressive...

If people claim they cannot find the "old Las Vegas" or complain the area they were in does not fit their taste - it simply means they did no research or planning before their arrival.

The old Las Vegas isn't hiding - you just need to know where to go. And, there's such a diversity and variety of areas and enclaves that it's just silly to say you can't find something that fits.

You see, that's where forums like this come into play. Want to find a particular kind of environment in Las Vegas with a certain type of people? Heck, we talk about those things daily here on this board (and others). Ask questions and be willing to learn and many of us here will take the time to steer you to where you want to be.

Is their the old way if you want to call it old sure just shop around. Downtown has preserved the old way. Many people visit and just do the strip and they rob themselves of the other things LV has to offer. If anyone comes to LV and does no research on the internet on what will be going on when they are here shame on them. As far as on the strip what is a shady character? the way they dress or walk this is not Disneyland folks. The younger generation is going to party the way they want to we did when we were younger and we dressed the way we wanted to. Remember being called a Hippie because your hair was long lol. So go with the flow have some fun do some people watching it is funny and accept change.

I wonder if the city the OP lives in looks exactly like it did in 2007? If so it's certain to be a boring place don't you think?
