Las Vegas
I moved from Tropicana Springs early this fall. However they won't refund my security deposit. They say I have an outstanding balance of fees. I told them to take the fees out of the security deposit and return the balance to me. They refuse. I understand this is a standard tactic for this apartment complex. Any ideas what I can do to get my money?

I let my wife(long time property manager)read your post. She says that either your deposit exceeds the cost of damages or its just about an even amount. You should be able to get an itemized property damage list within 30 days of you moving out. Just replacing the carpet, pet damage, wall repair and paint alone will almost always exceed the deposit amount. If you feel that you left your apartment in immaculate condition, then take it to small claims. My wife has a department that handles this stuff. Tenants hardly ever win.

Good luck.
