We love Viva Las Vegas!
My husband and I live in Tennessee and we love Rockabilly music and Custom Car Culture. Needless, to say, our clothing style and taste stands out like a sore thumb around here. But when we come for the Rockabilly Weekender, we just have a blast and enjoy being w/ people who enjoy the purity of the culture.
I have so many new dresses to wear, even bought myself a new swimsuit for the Pool Party! We just had a baby in Oct but even that isnt going to stop us because we're gonna just tote him along. Though the music doesnt look to be as good as last year, we are still looking forward to watching everyone dance. And hopefully some great acts will sign up at the last minute like last year.
In addition to the Weekender though, we have additional goals for our trip. We loved the last two trips to Vegas so much that we are going to drive around and look at the area so we can more accurately determine whether a move to the area would be to our benefit. The weather would almost certainly help our sinuses and the job market looks good too.
Thursday and Friday mornings, we are going to drive to Boulder City and Pahrump to get a better idea of the layout and housing options. I'm very excited!

You do realize that BC and Pahrump are pretty brutal commutes for most folks if you're working in the Las Vegas/Henderson area, and that there's limited opportunities actually in BC and Pahrump, right?

Yes we have considered that. We actually want to live in St George Utah but jobs are slim there as well. We are hoping that we can maybe rent for a year in one of those two places while we scout around for a better fit w/ the same weather. The drive doesnt bother us if it's somewhat 'short term'. My husband drives 45 minutes to work now.

Rockabillies, pimps, hos, crossdressers, swingers... OH MY!
Ok. Serously, y'all are making me jealous.. can I just move out there tomorrow?
I cannot wait!
Yeah, that and, oh, it's been about 12 degrees the past two nights here. Wind chills (do some of you remember those?) of about -5 to -7.
(and yes, those were minus signs in front of those last two numbers)

Sigh. It really bothers me to see all those words connected. Rockabilly girls are, for the most part, really modest and classy. We love retro style (think Rita Hayworth) that shows your shape without being too over the top or revealing. It's probably the least ammount of skin with the most sex appeal that you'll see in Vegas.
Christina Aguilara in her 'Candy-Man' video is a great representation too.

Alice, I was just using it all as a generalization of everything that goes on in vegas, compared to where I live. Did not mean to show any disrespect. I actually think all of that classic retro is fantastic... I'm a big fan of that era, as well as the clothing styles.
Definitely more Rita Hayworth, and less Bettie Paige, huh?

Actually, when Bettie Page was DRESSED, she wore very tasteful clothing. So yes, Bettie Page is a big influence on rockabilly style. The cuffed jeans, the halter tops, the u-shaped bangs. Though I am definitely more influenced by the glamour of Rita Hayworth and Grace Kelly.
