This event is a must-see. Not many locals go and it is not marketed to locals. The majority of Americans that attend are usually from California. There are loads of people from England and all over the world as well. I've been going for many years and each one is better than the last. The entire casino is taken over by fans of rockabilly music. The Gold Coast does an excellent job of embracing this event and the interesting crowd that comes with it. It's not uncommon to see people carrying their own twelve packs around with them as they go from event to event. This may be the one time I actually compliment a casino. One of the larger rooms usually has over 100 people swing dancing. The music is great too. Lots of new bands playing traditional rockabilly, as well as dozens of classic rockabilly acts. The last few years they have been inviting classic rythym and blues acts as well. I can't say enough about this. This is what my fantasy of Las Vegas entertainment should be. The later it gets, the better it gets. I usually sleep all day, then stay up all night. I can't wait!

jfkIII, the Burlesque competition is very cool. Pics won't do it justice. Lots of (good) attitude and choreography.

If you don't buy tickets, you must at least walk through the casino. You will be amazed, but you'll be missing all the best parts and crowds. Bring a camera, get some pomade, and some clothes like your grandpa used to wear, or just buy some when you get there.

I fully agree...one year I was at The Orleans during the 'pimp and ho' ball! OMG...it was amazing to just sit in the casino and watch the outfits (or lack thereof!) I could not believe it was legal....TRUTHFULLY!

You should have seen it at the Four Queens when they had the Rodeo Cowboys during NFR AND "The Imperial Court of the Desert Empire" [the cross dressers ball]

Sounds about as good as the swingers convention that used to take place at the Hacienda- they'd rent out entire floors there. Had a friend who was working nights delivering pizza in the mid 90's, and got a delivery on the 5th floor. Said he walked off the elevator, and every guest room door on the floor was open- people walking up and down the halls naked, and all kinds of "interesting" stuff taking place in the rooms. Seems he stuck around for a few hours after that delivery.....lol. I dunno if that'd fly today, but things were a tad looser at some of the hotels back then I guess.

Stuck around...LOL! I bet he got a "tip" (or two?)

'What Happens In Vegas, Stays in Vegas' definitely applies to the Pimp & Ho Ball, The imperial Court of The Desert Empire, and The Swingers Convention!

Leave it to a Las Vegas forum to degenerate into discussions about pimps, ho's and swingers. Very funny though. I didn't know about the Swinger's conventions here. It doesn't surprise me though. I can only imagine what the Hotel at the Hacienda looked like. I can't see one of the corporate-owned casinos hosting an event like this today. I take that back, now that we have shed our "family destination" image perhaps the Palms would, but I suspect they wouldn't allow ugly or overweight people to attend.
