Along these same lines, keep in mind that Nevada is a live and let live state. Maybe the only one left. You could be a black man who is a Mafia hitman and a Mormon Bishop by day, and your white wife could be a secretary by day and a hustler who cons high rollers at night, both proud members of the PTA at your adopted Asian kids' school, and nobody would notice or care.

I do not live in Henderson or near by, but the following is culled from the city-data.com site which I believe we are all on.
Races in Henderson: - White Non-Hispanic (78.2%)
- Hispanic (10.7%)
- Black (3.8%)
- Two or more races (3.5%)
- Other race (3.2%)
- Filipino (1.7%)
- American Indian (1.4%)
- Chinese (0.5%)
- Japanese (0.5%)
This would tend to indicate a much lower than average African American community. Others who actually live there might have much better information, but this seems to be the latest statistical data.

North Las Vegas.........
I thought that North Las Vegas was a predominately Black community in that area. Is that still so? Has it always been that way or is that a pretty recent phenomenon there?

i think the original question was more on the lines of where do the middle class AA lives. Although they may spread through out Las Vegas, for the most part you will find an area where middle class AA migrate. If anyone is from NY/NJ area then they are familiar with Bergen County, NJ and an area called Teaneck or Montclair. Middle class in NJ would mean both parents are making at least 65K each or more (NY transit workers make $80K per year). So, lets take a husband and wife in NJ grossing $130,000 they would live up north in Bergen county, or Piscataway in the middle of NY or move South to Cherry HIll, NJ. Is there an area in Las Vegas that you can find a large amount of middle class AA? I am looking to relocate and I am a CPA and my husband is a Chemist. Where should I start to look for other middle class professionals?

I can't imagine Henderson, NV being a large growing community for middle to upper middle class people of African descent.
First, you'd need the traditional population of them, then you'd need educational facilities to support this community, then you'd need professional jobs to employ them. Southern Nevada has very little of this.
I think the African-American population is something like 4% in Henderson. Then throughout Southern Nevada, the educational facilities are sadly abysmal. UNLV & CSN...which are just two fairly mediocre state colleges, where are quite unfunded, and aren't offering anything particularly noteworthy from any other mediocre state college.
Bucketloads of professional jobs isn't what I think of when I think Las Vegas either. It is more casino and tourism and more basic 'average joe' jobs.
I've heard of plenty of other parts of the country with a growing affluent upper and middle class wealth/communities for people of African descent...but they all seem to be in the South - Atlanta, Charlotte, I think Houston & Dallas, etc.

I don't think you will find much joy in Las Vegas.
In fact even the lower middle income black areas are starting to speak Spanish.
Our little quarter section out here is about 10% black and that is close to as good as it gets.
I am not sure this is all for a good reason...I think this town was as segregated as anywhere in the US until the 60s...but it has grown so much since then that it matters little.
We are all from somewhere else and don't spend a lot of time on the color issue. The area is more sensitive to hispanic than black.
My next door neighbors are the senior end of a very large black family from LA. They fit right in and are much more thought of as being the area liberals than the area blacks. And it is interesting because this cul-de-sac is quite liberal overall...completely contrary to the general trend in this corner of town. Around here being "progressive" is much more socially noteworthy than being black.
So I think in Las Vegas you are stuck. You don't really have the option of an upper middle class black area. Gonna have to put up with all kinds and all sorts.

The old, old part of North Las Vegas which butts right up against Las Vegas almost downtown is heavily, if not predominately, populated with mostly low income black people, but they are being overtaken by Hispanic people. The center of NLV to a mile or two north of Craig Road, east to Losee, west to Decatur is heavily populated with black people. Looking at faces as you drive around there it appears to be maybe 50% or more to Craig and Decatur but dwindling to a much smaller percentage the further north, and west you go. East of Losee all the way up Sunrise Mountain there are a lot of black people, but there are more Hispanic people. They are mostly, but not quite all, poorly educated and low income.
But if you are looking for upper middle class neighborhoods with lots of professional people, there isn't one for blacks and one for whites, it's all together in Summerlin, Peccole Ranch, The Lakes, Desert Shores, and a couple of others. By middle class I hope you mean in education and income, and not in the suppressive middle class mentality that weighs people down and stops them from living.
