Plus, its a misnomer that LV doesn't get cold. I was there in January, 2007, and it was below freezing for the whole week I was there. They said that the local's pools and pipes were freezing. Granted, Central PA can be colder, and the winter longer...but it is not out of place to see people in winter jackets in LV in January. If you're looking for drinks on the patio in the wintertime, while you hang out wearing shorts and a t-shirt, then Tampa is definitely the place.

I work outdoors all year round, and Last January was cold. But it didnt last that long. About a week of really cold weather but not fridgid. The year before that I was wearing shorts in Dec. I do love florida for your access to water and nice beaches. Its all about what your into.
As for sports.. what I like about Vegas is there is no alegiance to one team. I like the fact you can have many different fans in one place. This is a lot different experience in other cities that everyone is in love with one or two teams. I was a 49er season ticket holder before I moved to Vegas and I do miss the games but I can still fly there for a weekend and go see the game. If your a serious sports fan, games can get very expensive...beer, food, parking, tickets, sports apparel..ect..

I've lived here in Tampa for 12 years now, and absolutely LOVE IT. The housing market is overpriced here in Tampa right now (as is everywhere), but there are tons of houses that are not selling so we should see a turn here in the next year or so. I'm faced with a similar situation in that I've recently been offered a job in Las Vegas for a significant pay raise and relocation bonus (43% pay raise).
I've been doing some research for Las Vegas (not sure about Henderson), but what I've found is that housing will cost about 32% more in LV, utilities 15% more in LV. Gas, groceries, etc. will be about the same, but healthcare is 10% more in LV. My salary needs to be about 14% higher in LV to maintain the same standard of living that I'm used to here in Tampa. If I wasn't offered such a big raise, I WOULDN'T EVER CONSIDER MOVING!
Hope this helps... and like I said, not sure about Henderson

Eric, you are asking someone lese to make that decision for you. You've been to both places, so you should have developed a preference for one or the other. Either city
should have a tighter apartment market, as all the foreclosing folks have to live somewhere, and many buyers are priced out of the home market now. 33K doesn't
sound at all like management salary for a major corporation. A vegas parking attendant
makes more than that. I get a strong hunch either you are putting us on, or that
company isn't a major corporation. I don't think corporations would get very far if they offered management 33K a year. Let me guess, you manage a small corp. hotel, like a
Holiday Inn or such......in that case, you indeed would be better off working in the gaming industry, as even a dice croupier makes 40-50K a year if they're decent.......
best of luck!

I love Vegas, but was not able to find another job in my field that paid enough to sustain the obligations I had. However, depending on your field, you can earn more money in Vegas than in Tampa. The real benefit to Vegas for me was that it was out west, with open skies, gorgeous mountains, nice weather, and not a quarter of the bugs that Florida has. I grew up in Bethlehem Pa, have lived in California, NY state, Alabama, Florida. Virginia, and Nevada and Nevada wins.

The one thing no one is talking about is the comps. Every weekend we would hit the Tuscany casino and play between 20 and 40 dollars on penny machines. Not alot, but if we won, we would play and build up our comps. So we got dishes and clothes and all sorts of silly things over the years, but the funny part was that I had built up a 600 dollar food comp over a couple of years by stopping by for the free points etc. When I lost my job, we had a full month of free food. I would just stop in and put my tickets or whatever in the drum when I was on my way home from work. We did the same with the stations casinos when we went to the movies or out for dinner, we would play a twenty or two and we had comps there too. The locals places sent you great comps. You have to be able to accept the Las Vegas kitsch to do that, but we all had great fun as a bunch of professionals and military officers.

I found that website that said that Vegas would be cheaper than Wyoming too. Those numbers are crap. Vegas is way cheaper than even a bass ackwards state like Wyoming (100% rural and stuck in 1899). So far my utilities are about 250 cheaper than they are at this time in Wyoming. The plates for my car are 195 cheaper than my RENEWAL in Wyoming. My rent is 600 cheaper and I have 300 more square feet and a city view that is amazing. My health insurance dropped 36 a pay period compared to what it was in Wyoming (if you think mal-practice rates are high here, you have never lived in Wyoming, then again, not many people want to). Gas is 28 cents a gallon cheaper here than it was when I left Cheyenne. My car insurance dropped 18 a month (89012 is one of the cheapest zip codes here).
All this and the website told me that Utilities were 18% higher in Nevada, Healthcare was 10% higher in Nevada. It told me that housing was 46% higher in LV. In reality, Las Vegas average house prices are 8K cheaper than Cheyenne's. Personally, I love it here, we made a great decision by moving here.
