Wow, Wyoming doesn't sound like a nice place to live. I'm sure the scenery is nice? Isn't that where the Grand Teton mountain range is?

That's easy. let me put it this way. There are 5 vacuums that boast how strong they are doing what they do, Dyson, Miele, Hoover, Eureka, Oreck. (Can't say the word because the language filter would probably get me.)
If you were able to combine them all and multiply that by 2, you still won't have enough to beat southern Nevada doing the exact same thing and i'm serious.
If you like community, don't go to Southern Nevada. If you like being on your own and are used to people that don't bother to speak and are some of the most rude people God ever put life into, then Southern Nevada is the place for you. That and Jersey.
I've been here 6 years and it has been the worse expierence of my adult life. The moment my son graduates high school, I am so out of this place. If you are African American, it's even worse.

MrV...that 'sux'
Welcome to the LV forum. If you don't mind me asking...what was it that attracted you to Las Vegas to begin with? Many thinking of moving there now may be in the same shoes (and frame of mind) that you were in six years ago, and can benefit from a similar reference point.
I agree with your post, and because of that, most people assume I hate LV. Actually I love visiting LV...but wouldn't want to live there. Since this is a site for learning and helping others out, I spread a similar unpopular message here, and take some heavy-duty flack for it (as I'm sure you will also...so please be prepared!) I do so, to help others separate the tourist LV from the resident LV (I'm sure you're aware that there are many who visit there only, and then make the decision to move there based on their vacation experiences!) I don't expect them to center on what I post, but I do try, as you have above, to get them thinking. My hopes is that my posts bring to light what many others chose not to.
Good luck...and I'm in your corner.

Why would he catch heavy flack? He came here, does not like it, and is leaving. That is fine. Not everyone coming to Vegas likes it here...some don't. But he is doing the right thing...leaving.
I have some skepticism as to whether he will find the next place to his liking but he has formed his views of Vegas and is acting on them. Nothing wrong with that.

I suspect that he'll catch heavy-duty flack for pointing out things that he found negative about living in LV and expressing them in this forum.

I dont see anything wrong with what Mr Vegas said. He's having a bad experience and at least hes gonna do something about it.
I'll disagree with him on some points. I've made some of my closes friends from within my "community" so I would disagree with that, but, thats my experience.
As far as the Rudest People, the only place that I have ever been to where I didnt experience rude people was in Northern Alabama. Everywhere else that I have been to has rude people, you just can't avoid them unfortunatlly.

I'm still loving it here but I will cast my vote for the rudest people. I don't believe they're from here, just tourists that feel they can act however they want. In FL I saw it, on my travels around the world I've seen it, Americans just don't give a poo when they are on vacation. Maybe we're just so repressed where ever we come from but there's something so overwhelmingly liberating about being in a place you'll never see again that makes Americans complete douche bags. I don't know but folks here will drive like crap, not hold doors open, cut in front of you while walking, spill drinks on you and it won't even phase them.
As far as solitude among your neighborhood, that's just luck of the draw. You get along or you don't. Not sure what that has to do with Vegas, if you have friends at work or from other activities that should be enough. If you don't, well, that's probably your own fault and not the city's.

I have lived in the NE, Tampa and now in Las Vegas:
NE: a wet cold, gnats and humidity in the summer. Beautiful grass, trees, hills and some great schools.
Tampa: Lots of job, hot and humid...really humid...so much so the buildings sweat on the outside in the summer. You have to really really like humidity. There is crime so dont live in Tampa. There are some good bedroom communities but try to work near where you live. Traffic sucks. Hurricane season is okay. BIG ONE! If you ever want to own a house in the Tampa area, good luck on getting homeowners insurance. After Andrew most new residents have to go with the state fund or smaller co's. Big co's wont insure your house.
Las Vegas. Hot and dry and in the summer hot means sizzling skin....picture putting your head in a oven and turning on a fan to blow the air in your face. That kind of hot. There are cold snap weeks in the winter, yes I broke ice off my pool in Jan 2007 and then turned on the pump 24x7 so it would not do it again. We wrapped our pipes so no freezing. Schools are not good. $800 month will not get you as much as Tampa will.

I'm faced with a similar situation in that I've recently been offered a job in Las Vegas for a significant pay raise and relocation bonus (43% pay raise).
I've been doing some research for Las Vegas (not sure about Henderson), but what I've found is that housing will cost about 32% more in LV, utilities 15% more in LV. Gas, groceries, etc. will be about the same, but healthcare is 10% more in LV. My salary needs to be about 14% higher in LV to maintain the same standard of living that I'm used to here in Tampa. If I wasn't offered such a big raise, I WOULDN'T EVER CONSIDER MOVING!
Hope this helps... and like I said, not sure about Henderson

dont forget car registration and insurance! Our car insurance doubled coming here and is $900 per car and they aren't even outside the economy car spectrum. Registering your car annually sucks something awful. For example a new $28,000 car can run you near $500 to register. When I moved here I had a 4 year old car I bought for $25,000 brand new and it still cost me over $200 to register it. This year my 7 year old car is finally getting into the mid 100s to register!
