We are in the early stages of planning a move to Las Vegas. We have 2 children who will be in 7th and 5th grades. What school districts or communities have the best school system. We are in the early stages of planning and I haven't had much time to investigate the best places live in Las Vegas for families. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Take the initiative to review previous forum discussions on these topics. Search for a few keywords, such as "schools" for example.

As Tortoise suggested...

There is only one school system in Las Vegas andf it is actually part of the state government. The schools however vary from quite good to horrible. So your hunt is for a suitable middle school. There are ten or twelve that are good.

The magnet schools. Magnet & Career and Technical Academies | Clark County School District

It's a private school quality education at no cost except transportation.

The Clark County School District is the fifth largest in the U.S. There are 49 high schools, 59 middle schools, 217 elementary schools, and 32 other schools.

As previously mentioned, there is only one school district in the Las Vegas valley.

The more affluent neighborhoods have schools with better test scores. The magnet programs have the ability to reject unsuitable applicants, so they tend to have higher test scores and less disciplinary problems.

I went on the Nevada Department of Education's website trying to post a link to the accountability results, but, for some reason, the page is down.

Here is the page from where you can access it, though: Department of Education

In the column that says Program Accountability then by Counties. From there, when the link is working, click Clark County to see results by schools.

Of course, this is only useful if you are interested in schools with high standardized test scores.

Question asked should have been where are the better schools located? CCSD is an overall flop and rated anywhere between 47-51st depending on what news source you use. The schools in 89052 seem to be the best as Coronado is a 5 star high school and ranked in the top 100 in America. The elementary schools there are rated higher also. Private is a bit better, but Henderson International is expensive and not that great academically but have a ton of extra things that kids can do that is covered in tuition; Challenger is awesome for academics but lacks heavily in all other areas( teach 5th grade stuff in late third early fourth grade, but have NO athletics and expensive after school activites)..those are the only two I have been involved in

Here is a link to an article about the only school that I would recommend, but it only goes through third grade: Montessori school discourages 'one size fits all' teaching methods - View - ReviewJournal.com

There is only one school district in all of Clark County, an area of over 8,000 square miles. That's about the size of Connecticut and Delaware combined. Almost the size of Vermont or New Hampshire.

Anyone have any experience with some of the magnet schools? Particularly the Mabel Hoggard Math and Science elementary school.
I find it very frustrating that they only choose to place these schools in extremely worrisome areas.
