Let's keep this discussion strictly limited to why there's no light rail line from Fremont Street, down the Strip and to the Airport!

The real reasons? The unspoken reasons? The hidden reasons? Your best guesses?

I just finished reading a recap thread on all the light rail, along with streetcar, developments going on across this country, and I have to admit I was embarrassed for our city, that we're not included in this recap, or if nothing less, future lines being planned.

What's it going to take for this city to join the 21st century!!! Enough people having visited other cities with light rail, being scooted away from the airport in a train, and they come here and, disbelievingly, say:
Are you crazy!!! You mean my only choice getting from this Airport to the Strip is a taxi!! What gives here!!! Your taxi drivers run this city?"

You're asking what it's going to take for Vegas to join the 21st century, but tout 19th century technology as the answer. I suggest you consider a more practical application of technology - RoboCar. It's cheaper, it's safer, it's quicker, it will take you to exactly where you want (not standing in the middle of the Strip with umpteen suitcases and a dumb look on your face), and it's here, now. Intelligent public transportation = Europe. Half of this country hates (and I mean HATES) anything that even appears European.

Most of Europe developed before cars. A lot of it developed around rail lines. Most of the US developed around cars. You can't unscramble the egg.

Incorrect. The US developed around light rail as well. L.A.'s red line was one of the best systems ever designed. It was systematically killed (along with many other city light rail systems) by the automotive industry.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!! give that man a Kewpie doll.

The tire industry also had a hand in it's demise. In some areas they used the rail system to deliver goods to the road crews that built the roads that replaced said rail system.

I wrote a paper about it when I went back to school.
