Hello all,

I currently live in the SF Bay Area and recently got divorced. I am a 39 year old professional.

I work from home and have a unique opportunity to move into a very nice house at low rent. I'm trying to escape the impending 14% state tax in CA, etc.

My question to you all is - what is the single life in Vegas? I really dont care to meet women in bars, etc. I have been very successful getting back into the dating scene here via online sites and introductions.

I really dont know anyone in Vegas, so Ill be on my own.

should I move there? Help!

Kraig

Why not? As long as you've got a reliable income, and there's nothing tying you to California, I say go for it. You can always move back if you don't like it...

Wait.. you're in SF now? Ok, well, you can come, but you have to leave the California politics in California. The CA transplants (of which I am one) who want to change NV into "CA Lite" (of which I am not one) are ruining our wonderfully libertarian state.

As for the dating scene, can't really help you there, as I was already attached when we moved here. It is a party town, though, so if one night stands or short term relationships are your thing, I'm sure you'll do fine. There's also a heckuva lot of people here (was about 2 million in the LV valley, but I think we've lost some since the crash), so if you're looking for something more permanent, there are plenty of fish in the sea, as they say.

Most (many?) people who inquire on this forum want to move here and THEN find a job. Those people are a financial drain on our already economically troubled state. The LAST thing NV needs is more people looking for work. So when someone comes along who will be bringing their job or business with them, they should be welcomed. People contributing to the tax base is a good thing. People suckling off of it is not.

I hate California politics, and so I'm fine with that.

Can any single guys chime in?

I would choose Vegas over SF all day, every day. The problem I had with SF is:

1.) The weather sucked overcast all summer? No thanks.
2.) Traffic driving everyday to San Mateo for work was a nightmare.
3.) People of extremes - extremely gay, extremely ethnic, extremely stoned, extremely artsy, etc - didn't appear to be much for a "normal" guy that wasn't into extremes.
4.) Beautiful city from the outside, filthy smell of urine on the inside.

As far as women just go on the same sites you're using now. It's very easy to find attractive women here. Normal? Well, that may be a different story. I think there's something inherently wrong with the women on dating sites. Women get hit on all the time and have a lot of opportunity to date. Sure, there's the I don't want to meet someone at a bar crowd, but that's pretty much a cover.

I've met probably three dozen women off such sites and remain friends with one, but only saw two others more than once. Be prepared for someone to show up that looks nothing like their picture because it's from 25lbs and/or five years ago.

I hope some feedback from a single woman helps.

I came here almost 3 years ago looking for a better life with better weather, more excitement, more opportunities. I knew I made friends easily and I settled in a social neighborhood. The friends came and I love it here. Even though I was not driven to find someone, everyone seemed to be on the dating sites so I jumped on too. Personally, I think they are great if you take the time to carefully weed thru them and are ever diligent and get to know someone by email and phone before you jump off a cliff. Two years ago, via one of them, I met a wonderful guy who was living in an adjoining state until he met me and now we are living a life here and couldn't be happier.

You can replace Vegas with "anywhere" and it still makes sense.
