We have been VERY pleased with his rates and his work. The first time we took a car to him, we were expecting to pay about $2k for the work he was doing (based on what the dealer would have wanted), and it only cost us about $800. We've been equally satisfied with subsequent work we've had done. He's worked on three of our cars, and we've never had a problem with the quality of service or his pricing.

I don't know what kind of problem you've had in the past with him, but based on his reviews both here and on Angie's List, and my own experiences, I can only conclude that it was either an isolated incident or you've got unrealistic expectations, or maybe both.
So because you've had a good experience that means that there's no way others could have had a bad one?

I'd take an older car to him if it were something simple like brakes if I was too lazy to do it myself. It would be one thing if the guy had all the equipment and worked on the vehicles himself, but your car is probably going to get done by one of his flunkies. Like the one that was arrested on murder charges prior to me picking up my car.

C'mon, that's not what he said. He clearly stated that his opinion was based on positive comments/reviews posted by other people on C/D & Angie's List in addition to his own experiences. Moreover, no mechanic is ever going to receive 100% positive reviews. If, for example, I see 40 comments about someone, with 38 being positive and 2 saying that they were displeased with the work, that's good enough for me.

I'm glad you had a positive experience as well as many others. Based on my personal interactions with Carl and having to take the car back three times for the same problem in addition to repair bills totaling $1000 - it's enough for me to know never to go back there.

As I stated for anything simple I would recommend him to others. I feel the OP needs to know that not everyone has a great experience with Carl. Airics case is not isolated and I don't think anyone excepting their car to be fixed properly has unrealistic expectations.

His prices are decent, but lets be fair $75 an hr to have his assistant work on your vehicle isn't exactly OMG his prices are the best worthy.

Ymmv but for me the $$ wasn't a big deal but it would have been nice if I had the problem fixed. To some the money could really set them back especially if the job isn't done right and you're without your cars do a few weeks.

Try Hondoctors in North Las Vegas. These guys are honda fanatics and they are also reasonable. I've never had a bad experience with them before and they were also honest. Just call and get a quote.

I could be wrong on the hourly rate confusing it with my motorcycle mechanic.

No offense aggro, I feel better knowing im not the only one who got ripped off by him. Like you said, minor issues he may be ok. But oil changes are cheaper at the dealer than him also

Stiver's is reputable. It's family owned and the son was an instructor at the community college. My husband knows them well and knows they are very honest and reputable.

My husband was a service tech at a couple of local dealerships (not Honda) and they are less reputable, IMO. They have that slick car salesman screw over the customer attitude.
