Second the motion for Cathey House on Spring Mtn.

Cook on Wok I think is Americanized some. It's good anyway. Cook on Wok - Las Vegas - NV - 89129 - Menu - Chicken, Chinese, Lunch Specials, Seafood, Vegetarian - Online Food Delivery Catering in Las Vegas

For Italian in the NW we really like Introduction

There are a lot of good Italian Restaurants in Las Vegas now. Wasn't always so. But anyway there are too many to waste time and money on blah Casino or chain Italian restaurants.

Best Thai in NW is at Rainbow and Lake Mead: Pinkaow Thai Restaurant!

Viet Bistro is a very homey little cafe on Lake Mead and Rock Springs (near U.S. 95). Very friendly people. Excellent food. The owner has offered to cook anything for me with losw sodium. He's on low sal too. Viet Bistro - Las Vegas, NV

Here's a well kept secret in the NW at Cheyenne and Tenaya. The owners are chefs at (I think) the Hilton which is now LVH. They are from African, so add a little African influence to some of the items on the menu. I don't know if they consider themselves a steakhouse, but they do a lot of steak. We've had different things there, including breakfast, and have never had a bad meal. They have good wines too. And they aren't expensive. Wine 5 Cafe - American Kenyan Fusion

I recognized that location from the photos in the link. It was a pizza joint back in the day. I'll have to give it a try. I've never had Kenyan food before.

Yeah the pizza joint was pretty bad but the Wine 5 Café is very good. The service has mostly been good too. It's not what I'd call overtly African so it's not really exotic to me.

We are back home after a short time in Las Vegas. Yes, we picked the coldest week ever to come out and enjoy the relative warmth. Life goes on. We're over it.

We saw Celine and (Beatles) Love. I always try to let my wife pick the shows and she loved them both. We enjoy driving on the strip at night, so that is always on the list too.

We learned that, as we are getting older, we are eating less and are not as enthusiastic about walking through dozens of casinos, like we used to do when we were younger. The most expensive meal we ate was at the buffet at the Cosmopolitan. Like I said, we discovered that we just can't justify big meals anymore. I remember not too long ago that we could really enjoy a good buffet or a nice dining experience.

My wife is handicapped and so we do more driving now than walking. We always rent a car and drive around town, mostly at random. We did get into the area just north of downtown. Although the area is depressed, it is not much different from any other metro area. We put on over 275 miles just cruising around. We always like to do Red Rock. I love the desert so we also drove down to the Stateline.

I contacted my realtor about seeing some properties, but he said that there weren't many that fit my criteria. Evidently the real estate situation has turned around significantly in the past couple of years.
This is good news for many who have taken a beating over the past several years. I have a friend who owns several retail operations in the valley. He said that he just had his best year ever, and that things seemed to be improving. He employs many, both full- and part-time, and will be possibly adding some jobs in the coming year.

All in all we had a great time. As I said, our activity list is changing but we both still enjoy the area. We understand the importance of tourist dollars to the area. Las Vegas has been our vacation spot of choice since the 70s. Hopefully we will be using Las Vegas as our winter home when we retire. And we will be back in April for another great time.
