I have gained so much information from reading this forum throughout the last year. I have not had to post questions because so much helpful information has already been written. In February my husband and I are planning on retiring to Henderson from Florida (as long as 2 home sells work out!!).
One thing that I have not read anything about is Ice Hockey.

My husband is a 53 year old recreational tennis and ice hockey player. He was wondering about the opportunities available in the Henderson/Las Vegas area. Regarding tennis, he is a 3.5 to 4.0 player who prefers singles rather than doubles. For hockey he's looking for an organized pick up group or possibly an over 50 league. He currently plays each Saturday with an organized pick up group that has been together for over 20 years.

I would appreciate any information and thank you in advance for your time.

I was going to write and mention hockey at the Fiesta but the drawbacks would be, Fiesta is a long drive from Henderson. My significant other is a hockey player and we are somewhat near it in Summerlin. We too have searched for such a thing and gone over quite a few times to watch the senior hockey. I believe the charge is around $7-8 a game but he has never joined in because of something about the rules, which I can't begin to explain.

When you live in Nevada, no matter where, the one thing easterners have to get over is distance. To us old timers, driving to St. George for lunch at the Cracker Barrel, 120 miles north, is not that far of a drive.

Wait a minute ...your husband is 53 and you're "retiring" here???

Las Vegas Ice Center does not have an organized over 50 league like Sobe does but they do have a 40+ open hockey session for B/C level players. Location is Flamingo and Ft Apache, much closer to Henderson than Sobe. That said, I prefer Sobe.

For Tennis, contact Mary from USTA Nevada. Email: adults@ustanevada.com
We have a pretty big tennis community here in Vegas/Henderson, but from what I understand, not as big as FL.

Congrats! I retired and moved to Vegas a few years ago just after turning 54.

Retiring and moving here at 53 is even better!

Default Thanks

MadMan
Thanks for the Congrats.

If my husband and I could afford it we would live on the beach in Florida and Las Vegas. We decided to start off our retirement in Las Vegas and then in 5+ years or so we might move back to the Florida Beach. We will see.
Life is now an adventure!
