I appreciated the replies I received on my post re: relocating to L.V. and shopping in gated communities.

I'm a very grounded person and have considered the HOA fees but they still do not outweigh the addt'l real estate tax burden we have here and on the plus side, we both would like to work part-time to supplement s.s. The only jobs available in my area now are food service and telemarketing.

In closing, I would like to ask, what are the current motor vehicle charges and why are nice casino's built in the outlaying areas if "truly," locals don't gamble?

And lastly, as a reply to all the wise replies re: the vices of L.V. and the irrational reasons people chose to relocate, one of my favorite sayings is...
"WHEREVER YOU GO...THERE YOU ARE!!"

I wouldn't say that ALL locals dont gamble. I threw $10 in a machne last night, before I bowled. Now the last time I did that was at least two years ago. I don't go out to gamble, but, if I am "out" and have a coupe extra bucks to throw in a machine, why not.

Nothing beats stopping in to pick up a 18 pack of Ice cold Miller Lite at the local AM/PM, dropping your change in the machine and hitting 4 aces with a kicker!!! FREE BEER and some Extra cash!!!

Who said locals don't gamble???? I know very few who don't hit the casinos at least once in a while.

The Nevada DMV will give you an estimate on what it will cost to register your vehicle. The woman at DMV told me it's factored by MSRP. So if you have a even halfway nice car or SUV, expect to pay through the nose. it cost me $325 to renew registration on my 2004 Ford Explorer. The first year (2004) cost me over $700, I almost had a heart attack.

"WHEREVER YOU GO...THERE YOU ARE!!"

Very true, lol.

I'm a firm believer in a taking shots in life. You only go around once. If you think Vegas is going to be a good fit for you, go for it and good luck! It's a great place for alot of people

Alot of locals do gamble, just not as much as tourist (we don't bring $700 with us for a quick weekend of gambling, we may play some slots when we cash a pay check, or hit the poker room on a saturday night) and we generally do not want to deal with the Strip (also older retired locals make up a bulk of the local gambling community). Locals also like to put their family up in off strip propertys when they come to visit, because they are closer and cheaper than the strip. Living in Vegas means you will get lots of visitors.

Default Hawaii to Las Vegas

Next year, my family will be moving to LV. I will be renting a condo at Sedona located on S. Las Vegas Blvd. I have been applying for jobs with Clark County and Nevada State. So far, no job offers. Can someone tell me if my chances would be better if I had a Las Vegas address?

Yes they would be 1,000,000 times better. All I can say is, "Good luck finding a job with an out of state address and an out of state drivers lisence."
