So...how does a Displaced Brooklynite like Las Vegas? Just curious...as a fellow NYer...is it what you expected it would be?

What's up with the food out here?

I'm going to give Chop Stix a shot tomorrow. Can't be any worse than some of the other places I've tried.

I was born & raised in New York for 50 years. I lived in Brooklyn, Queens and lastly LI. I'm just going on 2 years living here and loving every minute of it. I like the weather better (granted 3 months can get a little brutal) We have seen more shows here in two years than we ever did in our lives in NY. Moved from a house on the Island to a 3 bedroom condo. No outside maintenance required. No lawn to mow. No snow to shovel. No LI Railroad to take to work. No having to go to Manhattan, period. It takes 30 minuets to drive 30 miles here. It took 1hour to drive 17 miles on LI. I can park for free to see a show here vs. taking a train or driving in Manhattan or getting a cab or having to find a parking garage paying $ 50 for a couple of hours of parking. Yeah! I'll take Vegas over NY any day

A lot of it has to do with the water. That's why it's also hard to find good pizza here as well. Anything made with Vegas water (cakes, bread, dough) all have a different taste than what we are used to.

Property taxes must also be much lower than LI, right? I'm glad you're enjoying life out there!

Taxes where I lived was roughly around $8K a year (mostly school taxes)
I'm paying about $1,500. a year now plus another $1,500. a year in maintence costs. Which is about how much I had to pay the guy in NY each year to mow my lawn.
