Shelter Cove Apartments from a local perspective
Does anyone know about Shelter Cove Apartments 2683 South Decatur Blvd. 89102. I looked at the website and it looks pretty nice. However, looks can be deceiving. LOL

Apartments are usually a crapshoot. If you have the chance to come out to look at them first it would be worth it. I know there are a few decent looking complexes off of O'Bannon right behind the Trader Joes near Sahara/Decatur. There are also a few dodgy looking ones!

You need to visit. We must have looked at 100 different apartments online that looked nice. When we got to Las Vegas, I could not believe how decieving the websites were, most of them were alot worse that the management made it out to be.

These (Shelter Cove) look nice. Even after driving through the complex, I think you will be pleased. However, I wouldn't want to live anywhere near Sahara/Decatur because of the horrible traffic. That area, in general, is flooded with apartments and most of them are getting dumpier and seedier. I've worked in Shelter Cove dozens of times over the years. I think they are fairly nice, but be prepared for life in a noisy community, surrounded by some of the busiest streets in Las Vegas. You will get more than your fair share of cops and the sounds of sirens in the area. They appeared to have a large share of people with kids, as well as several tennants in each unit. I also remember seeing lots of young, single people there as well. I think this complex is likely better than most in that area, but better isn't always good. I had some horrible experiences living in that area, but that was over ten years ago. I rented just east of Shelter Cove. It was an adventure each week: my car was broken into more than once, Someone tried scaling the wall to get onto my second story balcony, always heard and seen cops, lots of kids and families that didn't appear to work. I couldn't afford much else at the time, so I had to make due. In my opinion, I don't think the area has improved much over the years.

I think the only good thing about that area is being close to Trader Joe's.

We are close to the one in Henderson. Love that place. I asked one of the Metro officers I ride with, and he said your only problem will be traffic there. there are a lot of calls for service in that area but it is mostly domestics and noise disturbances, nothing worth worrying about he said.

Thanks everyone!!! I really want a townhouse because I want an up/downstairs however I'll also take a condo. I just wanted to see what you all thought of the apartments. Nothing is set in stone.

It was a last minute decision between there and Villas at Painted Desert and I sorta regret not going to Shelter Cove or their sister property on W Sahara, Indian Hills. This area isn't as bad as folks make it out to be. I'll give them that the traffic is terrible at times but I like the convenience of being near everything I want to do.
Their pools, fitness center, and community club are really nice and it's way off the street so traffic noise isn't bad. The apartments range from small and economical to large and nice. The 1 bedrooms can be weird or nice depending on how traditional you are. There is no division between the bedroom and sink/shower area, just a large arching entrance. The toilet is off on its own behind a door but it can be funky if you and your significant other have modesty issues or wake up at vastly different hours.
There's a cool little Chinese place within walking distance as well as a Red Robin, Einstein Bros, Jimmy Johns, Starbucks, Sports Authority, Circuit City, Vons, and mini mart.
Again, it's a minor pain in the booty getting in and out at peak traffic times but for the price and location it ain't bad (and I scouted a ton of places before I arrived.)
Forgot to say why I semi-don't like Villas at Painted Desert. Issues with appliances like fridge only getting to 55 degrees at times, dishwasher being a worthless waste of space, and washer/dryer being rather small are bothersome. Rent is $772 which is a little higher than what Shelter Cove wanted for their tiny model but less than their large 1bdr. I do like our current 1/1 we're in because it's a two story that is on top of their 2 bdr model so we sleep on the 3rd floor that has a cool view of the area facing the strip.

If you don't have to live at a certain area, very affordable BRAND new condos can be found in the city of North Las Vegas. Also, some 5-6 brand new apartment complexes are being build. Look near the intersections of Centennial & Losee in NLV
